Does anyone have any cheap entry setups? Just curious.

Could I start for ~$1000?

In the US quite easily. I managed to do it for ~1000 Australian, which is about $700-750 US plus gear is more expensive here.

You won't get amazing stuff but you should be able to get something decent. 2nd hand Technics are about $300 I think I heard somewhere, see if you can get 2nd hand Stanton ST-150s, they might be a bit cheaper. Mixer wise I'm sure you can find something.

That's an alright idea if you're diehard about spinning vinyl, but still not the cheapest in the long run.

The cheapest route is probably the route I ran. Get two Pioneer cdj 200's which you can find for about $290 in some places and a Numark dxm 06 mixer or something of the like from Numark which run roughly about 250.

So that's roughly $830 right there. Just invest in some headphones ($50-100... I went with expensive headphones and spent $130) and if need be buy some speakers which should run anywhere from 50-100 and you come out around $1,000.

Now you don't have to worry about buying vinyl which can cost a TON, especially since most places in America don't carry much in the way of good records meaning you have to import and pay shipping. Getting enough vinyl to do a 2 hour set could get verrrrry pricey. Now all you have to invest in is cd-rs and music downloads (legal or illegal)

But if you're hellbent on spinning vinyl, you're hellbent on being poor but the idea isn't bad.

[edit] you may need to buy an amp too which will run around $200 or more and some speaker wire, which'll cost maybe $20

I have some cheap ass decks and mixer, but I still spent less on my DJing software (Traktor, not Ableton unfortunately), and I had my laptop anyway for my work, so it's been alot cheaper and alot better going down the digital route, especially as the only one i DJ for is me.

2 Technics 1200s which I never use anymore. They are collecting dust in my garage in their original box. Kind of sad but since switching over to psytrance which is 99% CD, these are of no real use to me anymore.

1 CDJ100, 1 CDJ200
Vestax PCV-175 Mixer
Mackie HR824 Monitors

So I've spent like 3 to 3.5k or so I guess. Never really thought about it.
