I don't support the reasons and all the b.s. with "selling americans the war", however, I do believe that leaving now is not an option. Yes, the situation is pretty bad but leaving will only make it worse.
There are thousands of people in Iraq with a score to settle. Leaving them be, so that they can organize and plan out another attack or even worse - breed another cleric government would be insane.
Every other point about the reasons "why not" is valid x10. Besides, we, Americans have invested more than a boat load of money into this money pit and we'll be damned if we walk away from this without even some marginal return on invested lives, effort, and yes... money.
I want to see $1.10/gallon gas prices again - doubt it will happen but damn it if my family is paying a $90,000 tax bill for this war without getting at least some return on investment. And yes, it would bring some much needed stability to the middle east if US had permanent presense there - like we do in South Korea, Japan, and many other nations. Like it or not - WE AIN'T GOIN' NOWHERE.
Any presidential candidate that runs on a platform "Pull all of our troops out" will not get my vote - that man is a coward and has no sense of what this will do to us in a long run. We're in this war together - democrat, republican, liberal, atheist, whatever - terrorists make absolutely no distinction between "good" or "bad" Americans.
No argument can be made right now about validity of pulling our forces out - yes, the mission has gone terribly wrong, people were lied to, people were killed - but damn it we can't leave. Not now... and not any time soon. So, just grunt and bear it.
The rest of you non-Americans, why not shut the f*ck up and focus on your own damn problems - I bet your country has plenty of them that can use all the energy your feeble minds can supply. So, shut it and do something useful.

| quote: | | No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. |
