Isn't this part of what the riots in France were about? Poor foriegn workers feeling like they are getting the very short of end of the stick, partly because they weren't citizens?

Compared to most of the world becoming a citizen in the USA is easy.

yea what the hell was that all about? i thought they said it was because they passed a law that allows employers to fire younger employees without notice....hahah my bf and i were like, "uhh, isn't that what getting fired is?"

seriously though, those riots were crazy! fucking animals, i felt bad for the cops that was horrible...are they still going on? i try not to watch the news that much.

i have no problem with people coming to america as long as it's done legally, showing me they actually want to be here...what i do have a problem with is a entire culture pooring over the border because their country doesn't care enough about them and basically turning california into a giant barrio. the problem with immigration in this country is that the mexican communities that spill over the border have no desire to assimilate into our society and culture. they come for higher wages and to leech off of american resources and that's it.

obviously there is nothing that can really be done about the huge population of illegals now. what really needs to happen to solve the problem is to improve the quality of life in mexico. of course that will never happen because their government is too corrupt to do anything about it.

the only thing i think would ever fix mexico though is if the united states annexed mexico and put in the money to fix it. they will never do it themselves.

this would be a disaster, though, because suddenly all the 18-21-yr-old American kids wouldn't have anywhere to party and drink

Not if you're from the UK it isn't!

My dad moved to Ohio for legitimate reasons.....because of a woman he loved. It took him 3 years+ to get a green card and he was treated so badly by the immigration service! Everytime he filled in a he had to pay, and everytime they lost it he had to pay again. His wife got investigated and he had to come backwards and fowards for years before he then had to stay in the States for 2 years without visiting for fear of not being let back in!

And amoungst all this he couldn't work for over a year due to work permit issues.....topped by the work permit he did get running out before he got his green card while his wife could no longer work due to back injuries suffered in her last job!

It seems the US immigration office has one rule for certain cultures/nationalities and one rule for other!

+

I had heard about a group of Mexicans placing a claim on some states of the SW belonging to them and wanting to take back control.

Have you ever noticed how easy it is for anyone of another culture to settle and still maintain elements of their culture within our own? I think it's possible as predicted in the coming years for us to be a minority in our land because.. what is American culture? Until it ceases to be the stereotypical fastfoodfastwork suffocating under the American dream, those Little Italy's and Habana's will only span over longer masses of populus. I honestly don't have a problem with it. I'm just waiting for them to hit the Midwest.

by the way, i think it's funny how the protestors downstairs are chanting in spanish and holding up THEIR country's flags when they are trying to have rights in america.

I think we should have better border patrol but it should be easier to become a citizen. Like if you can prove you will work and be productive and not strain the economy then they should just be like youre in. Of course that might not help that much but I definitely think we need better securuty along the Mexican border.

Also, for all the immigrants currently in the US, we should give them citizenship if they are working steadily just so that we have a record of them so they can start paying taxes and what not. If not, adios puta.
