hey I never said they were supposed to look realistic; again it comes down to the individual style of the artist.

Impressionist, cubism, art deco, minimalism and many other movements popular in art history were never meant to be realistic.

personally my favorite ones are 1st and 3rd

cool, good stuff.

I was just sayin people shouldn't praise this as art if they're only amazed by the realism possible by using Photoshop.

btw, those speed-paintings you posted are awesome!
some are just plain aesthetcially wicked, and others have a wicked political/emotional layer. that's what i'm talkin about!

Yeah, I've been a fan of art all my life. Currently I am taking 3D computer animation at Humber (north campus). We focus not only on animation, 3d modeling, photoshop and flash, but also art fundamentals and history. I love it

This makes me laugh.

I'm not saying he doesnt have skill... his perspective drawing skills are wicked.

but anyone can learn how to use/paint with photoshop. there is a fine line between natural skill and technical skill in such pieces.

yes, but by this theory anybody can:
- learn to paint with oils, watercolours, or acrylic
- learn to draw with pencil, conte, or charcoal
etcetera

Well there's a difference between doing it using your hand and eye and measuring everything out. I'm guessing here, everything is placed according to rulers and margins and measuring. From personal experience, I can't draw by hand for shit, everything just looks ultra fucked up. But give me a ruler and a pencil and an eraser, and a whole bunch of time, and I can create some pretty good stuff. So the way I see it, I have no artistic ability, but some technical ability. I think the same applies here.

well, to a certain extent, yes.
some people will naturally be able to grasp certain concepts easier than other, but I believe if someone truly put the effort and time to practice and dedicate their life to it, they can learn how to do almost anything.

In my opinion the real art piece comes out in the creative way the artist applies his skills in rendering his image.

it are really comes down to what you make and how represent it.

and as I said... its a very fine line. which imo can be swayed by opinion.

actually you'll probably be suprised that it mostly still comes down to it being appealing to the eye. While modeling in 3D I could type in sizes and proportions for objects, but it usually comes across looking more fake than if I had used my eye to make it look good.

you dont know what you're talking about
it takes forever to master something like this
its like saying if i practice long enough i can become an engineer, how does make any sense
i've used photoshop for years i can safely say that it would take me about 10years to duplicate something like this which wont be even as perfect as this.
