go to preferences and bump up the amount of cpu usage ableton can use (you can do up to 80%) then turn off every other program thats running.
some other stuff to try:
turn off COMPLEX mode (aka kill your cpu mode) on ALL your clips.
convert all your clips to wave or aif if they arent already.
"freeze" tracks.
render any nutty effects like freeware plugins, (stuff like livecut and supatrigga can be super unstable when rendering)
save the .als under a different name, try again.
render at a lower Khz like 48 to 44.1
if you are using reaktor, especially fast fx, this is 90% probably the reason you are fucked.
move all clips referenced to one area or to a different HD.
how many audio channels are you using? try and flip flop between the same 3-4 channels and kill the rest.
oh and i should have said this earlier
GOOGLE VOXEGNO RECORDER, STRAP IT ON YOUR MASTER CHANNEL HIT RECORD THEN HIT PLAY ON YOUR ARRANGMENT AND IT WILL RECORD REAL TIME.
or use an external hardware recorder, like an mp3 player iriver kinda thing, or cd burner.
