I've been refraining from posting because initially, I was disappointed. I guess I still am. I heard such good things about the Mtl gig that I expected something similar.
I spent 2/3 of the night being impressed or downright blown away. I love when he gets into melodic tech house or really deep techno, as he did in the first hour or so. Then he got into some rock remixes, including the Doors - not particularly my cup of tea but it worked, and I was still dancing. Then came the jazzy house - still upbeat, and I was still dancing. Then came the jungle. Sarah can't dance to 145bpm! That's when I sat down and just watched the dancefloor clear out. Strangely, the lights started getting brighter, and this was at 4:15. Shortly after that, the music STOPPED, and then came back at like 100bpm. 100bpm of...reggae. Hip hop. I'm sorry but this is a dancefloor...100bpm just doesn't get anyone going! The dancefloor looked like it was swimming in peanut butter it was so slow.
There was a track or two at the end that were good but by then I was ready to leave. I stayed til close around 5 but probably would have left earlier if my friends had been willing to pack up and leave too.
I ran into greg gow who had just arrived and been told Laurent wanted to close and therefore Greg wouldn't be playing. Guy always gets shafted. That last hour would have been awesome if greg had closed with some techno.
The smoking in there is brutal. I didn't notice it last time I was there. Just revolting.
My right ear STILL hurts. The sound in there is just over the top. What is the point of hearing the MNus crew there? Minimal needs to be heard on a proper sound system to be fully appreciated. I don't even know if I'll go.
that's about it, I guess.
