"The author of the ground-breaking science-fiction novels Neuromancer and Virtual Light returns with a fast-paced, high-density, cyber-punk thriller. As prophetic as it is exciting, Idoru takes us to 21st century Tokyo where both the promises of technology and the disasters of cyber-industrialism stand in stark contrast, where the haves and the have-nots find themselves walled apart, and where information and fame are the most valuable and dangerous currencies.
When Rez, the lead singer for the rock band Lo/Rez is rumored to be engaged to an "idoru" or "idol singer"--an artificial celebrity creation of information software agents--14-year-old Chia Pet McKenzie is sent by the band's fan club to Tokyo to uncover the facts. At the same time, Colin Laney, a data specialist for Slitscan television, uncovers and publicizes a network scandal. He flees to Tokyo to escape the network's wrath. As Chia struggles to find the truth, Colin struggles to preserve it, in a futuristic society so media-saturated that only computers hold the hope for imagination, hope and spirituality."
It's an excellent book. |

I might actually check that out now o.O
Halcyon+On+On is a song. By Orbital.
| quote: | hal·cy·on Pronunciation Key (hls-n)
n.
1. A kingfisher, especially one of the genus Halcyon.
2. A fabled bird, identified with the kingfisher, that was supposed to have had the power to calm the wind and the waves while it nested on the sea during the winter solstice.
adj.
1. Calm and peaceful; tranquil.
2. Prosperous; golden: halcyon years. |
I guess Orbital's (brothers Paul & Phil Hartnoll) mother was treated for her insomnia with the powerful sleeping drug Halcyon
| quote: | Triazolam
COMMON & BRAND NAMES
Halcion; Somniton; Novodorm
EFFECTS CLASSIFICATION
Anxiolytic; Sedative; Benzodiazepine
CHEMICAL NAME
8-chloro-6-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-methyl-4H-[1,2,4]triazolo [4,3-a][1,4]benzodiazepine
DESCRIPTION
Triazolam is a short-acting benzodiazepine used in the treatment of insomnia and anxiety disorders. Its popularity peaked in the mid-1980s but then became associated with causing "traveller's amnesia" when used on airplanes. |
And so that's where the inspiration for the song came from.
It just happened that when I was thinking up a user name, I was listening to that particular song.
It's meant to be pronounced 'Halcyon and On and On' just so you know. Don't need to say 'plus' anywhere in there.
