Here in Spain, English is started to learn when children are 8 years. Also they learn to speak catalan, basque, etc; but it depends where they are from.

I just picked it up when I was a baby. Easy really.

Oh and prox... English in prohibited in secondary school?

* remembers he can't speak Dutch and so shuts up *

Seriously though, I have a lot of respect for people who speak a second language. I think the English are just fucking lazy (the attitude is why bother learning another language when everybody speaks English anyway ).

actually, i've been to kaislautern, weisbaden, rudesheim, koln, dusseldorf and bonn.
most of the younger (less than 30) people i spoke to in english could talk back. but most of the older people especially the ones over 40 didn't know what the hell i was saying.

AMERICAN ENGLISH - WHY??????

The thing I've been REALLY wondering about is why is there "American" English? I noticed that "UK/Euro/International" English is so much different from "American" English and it's the proper way to speak. My question is, WHY IS THERE AMERICAN ENGLISH? Americans seem to call "lorry" as "truck" and spell differently too! There are SO many differences between "American" English and "REAL" English. This only makes English as a whole harder to learn than ANY other language. Another thing: Why "ZEE" instead of "ZED"??? "ZED" is used MUCH more around the world than "ZEE" because ONLY in USA, "ZEE" is used. Here's something that also is weird: Why are there TWO different keyboard layouts for the SAME language: UK and US? That's so dumb because the same symbols are used everywhere ANY European and some Asian, like Malay, and Tagalog languages are used. I try to speak as "REAL" as possible but, over here in USA noone understands me because US English is SO different compared to "PROPER" English.

So, are you from USA or elsewhere? I heard that the reason why "American" English exists is for simplification but, why change whole WORDS and a letter of the alphabet just to simplify the language? I understand the spelling might be different in other countries than USA (Colour > Color, Organisation > Organization, Centre > Center) because Americans like to spell the way it SOUNDS but, if REAL English were inforced everywhere, then that "spelling that way it sounds" will diminish. So, who agrees here?????

easy w/ the adjectives please. so that it's all "cool", okay?

I live in Canada rite now, and I saw how ppl speak english around here too, and I've been to US also. the thing with speaking better was a test some one or two years ago and it was on average of the population. and I was reffering to the real english - which is the one spoke in England by the english. so before U jump on my head, ask nicely.
