all wines, both red and white, have variations that span between fruity and dry.
My favorite red, Georges DuBoeuf Beaujolais Villages 2002 is right in the middle, and goes great with pasta.
Beaulieu Vineyards Pinot Noir, and Regaleali are a couple of my other top reds, although I prefer drier whites for the most part, especially if I'm out, as I don't want my mouth red and teeth gray after a few glasses.
Le Faux Frog Chardonnay is a fruity white, but the pear taste is very remarkable.
Your best bet is to find a big liquor store around you, and see if they have a wine tasting event, which many do every couple months. Many times, you can go there and sample over 20 different wines, and gauge what you want based on those samples.
Try to be picky with your first few samples though, as it's difficult to cleanse your pallet and get a good sense of what the wines will actaully do for your taste buds after samples a good amount of them.
