I did get both Ulrich albums, and yes, they are absolutely fantastic! My favorites are Knuddelmaus, In All The Wrong Places, As If You've Never Been Away, and the Gran Turismo 4 version of A Million Miles Away. I cannot wait for his next album, should be incredible. As for the others, I am gonna need some time to get them all, but when I do, I'll let you know what I think. Thanks again!

Check out Spacey Orange's chillout mixes like "Chillout or die again" and make sure you buy the stuff that this label offers: www.sendingorbs.com

Check out Secedes album Tryshasla! It's godlike.
ALSO, check out the 40 minute track The Orb - Blue Room!

this ambient track is very soothing to me. so far everyone I have given it to has liked it.

Aphex Twin - Stone in Focus.

its not on any of his albums for some reason. the only thing it ever appears on is some stupid house/ambient mix cd. weird.

Arovane- "Lilies"
Mythos- "Mythos"
Orbital- "In Sides"
Steve Roach- "Structures from Silence"
Brian Eno- "Ambient-2:The Plateux of Mirror"
Brian Eno- "Ambient-3ay of Radiance"

Boards of Canada- "The Campfire Headphase"
Vangelis- "Opera Sauvage"

And to get more adventurous...
Slowdive- "Just For A Day"
(Well, this is "shoegazer", but ulrich schnauss is A fan and it is a great ethereal album anyway)

Sigur Ros- "( )" (this is classified as "post-rock" that is post-modern rock. What is post-modern rock?Rock that is not rock actually! In the present case we get ethereal dark and melancholic ambience played by a group of conventional rock musicians. Highlight the haunting electric cello of the aalto singer. Strange and haunting music.

M83- "Before The Dawn Heals Us" (i absolutely love this)

Labradford- "A Stable Reference"

how about the names of some singles from these albums? personally i've never heard of 99% of those artists before.

Sinnica Hax, all I have to say is "WoW!" I am extremely impressed. Right now I'm listening to "Always Returning" and let me say that this is a phenomenal track. You sir, or madame :P, have some serious talent. I already downloaded all the tracks, I still need to listen to the others. But you knew what I was looking for - trancy, yet soothing. I can't really explain it, but I am happy to have found even more excellent music. Thank you again! And I highly recommend any one else looking for similar things to check out Sinnica Hax as well.

most ambient are strictly sold as full lenght albums. However, samples can be found at your nearest amazon store for some of the listed albums. I suggest you start there. Also, Sigur Rós has plenty of downloadable media on their site, check it out

Ha Ha yeah 303 you are absolutely correct! Ambient doesn't come in massive 12" hit singles (Thank god!!!)it's "album music",music that you have to put your headphones on, press "play" and start a personal journey. It's usually quite esoteric but can be appreciated by anyone who likes similar or identical musical qualities, such as long reverbed harmonies and beautifull crystal-clear melodies (at leat in most of the times, don't forget that there is "dark-ambient" as well such as "Lull", "windy & Carl","Rich & Lustmord" and even "gothic-ambient-atmospheric darkwave" such as "Lycia" and "Black Tape For A Blue Girl".Oh by the way...make sure that you listen to the album "The Burning Circle and Then Dust" by "Lycia" it's just amazing music... ).

I love ambient music, it's one of my favorite genres together with classical (mostly impressionistic stuff though), post-rock abd minimalism (no not, the berlinesque techno stuff of maurizio/basic channel, neither the modern crappy electro stuff, i mean the original symphonic minimalism of steve reich, philip glass etc.) Oh and for the more adventurous of you please listen to steve reich and the albums "different trains/electric counterpoint" , "the desert music" or "tehilim", it's like trance played by an orchestra!!!.

And yes, Sigur Ros are absolutely excellent!"The Nothing Song"(untitled-5 of "()" ), oh what a beautifull melancholic tune. The last album "Takk" was perfect as well.

I agree,

But don't forget to check out Kettel as well. Albums like "Through Friendly Waters" and "My Dogan" are full of relaxing atmospheres and melodic tracks!

These songs are a bit slow for trance but they are very nice to listen to and I think one would find them soothing.

Chicane - Saltwater
Smith & Pledger - White
Vincent De Moor - Mystique Colors
Viridian - Sunhump (Richard Durand Remix) - I heard this first from the recent Tiesto EM, it is a good one

also maybe
Kyau vs Albert (Kyau & Albert?) - Are You Fine

If this gives people a better idea as to what I am searching for, then that's great. But yes, thank you for that! I will be listening to this song for a long time to come. Keep up the great suggestions!

Stereo 8 Remix of that song kicks ass! Try it!

Well it's been a few months since someone last posted in this, so I figured I'd give a small bump if that's okay. I am always on the lookout for more soothing trance... and after rereading this thread, some suggested I was looking for ambient. I did look into ambient music, and I do enjoy it, but it isn't quite what I had in mind. Hmm, for example, I picked up L.E.F. by Ferry Corsten, and one track in particular is what I am looking for, that being "Galaxia." I think this is the best track on the album, and pretty much encompasses the kind of trance I'm looking for. I guess it's kind of hard for others to really know what I am looking for, but nonetheless, I thank you all for your continued suggestions. I guess you can also call this uplifting trance maybe? I am still not positive about all the terminology. But again, I look forward to any suggestions. Thanks again!
