Not typically, but what I'm referring to as being at a certain high point in a gear might only be for a second or so, which is where one's gas mileage would be lowest, then your gas mileage increases (more MPG) when your tranny shifts (or you shift it) into the next gear, dropping your RPMs back down again.

Gotcha. Yeah accelerating is where you burn most your gas. That's why city MPG it typically so much lower than highway MPG. Stoping at lights then taking off again.

Wow. What a breakthrough revelation! The longer your throttle is open, the more gas you're going to burn. Who would have thought. I'm glad we got this settled, guys.

For some reason I've been driving crazier now...

I tend to cruise around 130km/h in my SUV (BMW X3). Cruising at 5th at 130 has a lot higher RPM than cruising at 120km/h. I forgot where I read, that once you pass 110km/h or something like that, your gas usage exponentially increases, which ain't a good thing.

It costs me almost $75 a week to drive my SUV, and thats when I've been filling it up at the pumps that are under $1.00 (I know where the good ESSO's are).

I saw an Esso last night selling regular at $0.979 last night!

Not true if we are talking about efficiency (miles per gallon OR km per liter)

Explain how drag is not a factor when talking about mileage.

Umm.. thanks for proving that it IS a factor, as I've been saying all along. You know why the curve starts to slope downwards after 60mph? Because the drag that it is created to keep the car going at that speed outweighs the fact that the engine is spinning at low rpms. At high speeds, the number 1 determinant of how much gas you'll be using is drag. You could have 8 (fuck, let's make it 20) gears in your car, and drag will still be more important because at high speeds, regardless what gear you're in, you're gonna have to have the throttle wide open to overcome the drag.

It's the same as the people that try to argue that weight or horsepower is important when it comes to determining top speed.

I'm just showing how a car is more efficient when you go faster, TO A POINT.

I would have to say that if you had 2 cars w/ the same body style, the car w/ more HP would def. have a higher top speed.
