Because the drag that it is created to keep the car going at that speed outweighs the fact that the engine is spinning at low rpms. At high speeds, the number 1 determinant of how much gas you'll be using is drag. You could have 8 (fuck, let's make it 20) gears in your car, and drag will still be more important because at high speeds, regardless what gear you're in, you're gonna have to have the throttle wide open to overcome the drag.
It's the same as the people that try to argue that weight or horsepower is important when it comes to determining top speed. |
I'm just showing how a car is more efficient when you go faster, TO A POINT.
I would have to say that if you had 2 cars w/ the same body style, the car w/ more HP would def. have a higher top speed.
