And to answer your question:

Kid Kenobi is an Australian DJ who won People's Choice NSW DJ of the Year in 2001 at the Australian Dance Music Awards, and Technics Australian DJ of the Year in 2001-2005. He has been featured in FHM, Rolling Stone, Ralph and Urb and also writes for some music papers, and has done some music production, notably Ministry of Sound Australia's "A Clubbers Guide to the Breaks". Kid Kenobi has played alongside some of the worlds most popular dance music groups such as The Prodigy.

wat i was saying there was that just because u might produce one or two good EDM artists, doesn't automatically means that EDM is thriving within a nation, or that the country will be seen as a thriving point for EDM and EDM culture (if there is one).

correct, so why even bring it up?

compare population in europe, USA, asia, etc to Australia. the numbers alone would suggest that no matter how popular a dj is within australia unless they they move to a country with a broader market or has a shitload of money to promote themselves globally chances are not a whole lot of people outside of australia are going to hear about them.

of course the net helps djs get exposure but as stated kenobi isn't exactly playing your garden variety commercial stuff.

i'd encourage you to listen to his sets or even better witness him live to understand why the local crowd respect him.

he could mix the pants off tiest0r any day.

check out the following sometime...
- Kid Kenobi Sessions
- MOS Breaks 03 The Album - Mixed by Kid Kenobi

The guy commands crowds, gets regular gigs at australia's biggest events, and is mixing stuff for a respected label within the industry. Nobody can deny that he's a success in his own right.

why do you even feel the need to "pwn" a dj you've never heard or witnessed before anyway?

With sweeping uninformed statements such as "Outside Melbourne the scene is 0" you just make yourself sound silly.

Yes the scene is not huge in some cities, but it doesn't mean theres not quality out there. Every city has a clubbing scene, in most i'm sure you could find something to tickle your fancy most weeks. And there are some really quality regular nights out there for every genre. The scene isn't shit, its just not widely popular.

Don't make silly sweeping statements and you may be taken more seriously

eh, excuse me,

but I haven't found anything of my liking in Brisbane, or the Gold Coast. From talking to other ppl and their experiences, it seems that other than Melbourne, and Sydney, there's not too much out there that would make me think otherwise. Not to mention always hearing/reading about what's happening in the scenes down there.

To me, that's 0 (outside of Melbourne and Sydney).

Ofcourse there's always exceptions every now and then, PVD came to brissy recently, but i'm not gonna pretend that that makes it all OK again.

YEs there's clubs, but the stuff there is just reflective of the isolation of Australian EDM as compared to the rest of the world.

When this conversations started, no-one was really having an intelligent conversation about this topic that we're discussing now. Now that it has started, I might actually be compelled to stop talking casually and engage in an intellectual debate. ie. cutting out the sarcasm/exaggeration.

Jesus.
