heres how it goes...mitsubishi opened up a long time back and then they merged with Chrysler..not sure when...then their cars were powered by dodge engines..if u should know, the stealth,galant,eclipse,3000gt and the Laser all had one thing in common.....the engines were 90 percent based on the Mitsubishi Galant..which was designed by Dodge..
the DaimlerChrysler merger took place only in the late 90s (98 if i remember correctly) and thats when Daimler Benz(IE all Mercedes,Daimler Cars) merged with Chrysler (Dodge,Chrysler,Plymouth,Mitsubishi, Eagle, Geo etc.)
anyway..im not sure if all my info is correct but this is how i have followed up on cars for a long time |
not to be a dick but you're wrong. Mitsu and Dodge never "merged".... they shared engines and platforms. a "merger" would be what happened to Daimler and Chrysler. Mitsubishi is not part of their conglomerate. Dodge does hold a percentage ownership of Mitsubishi, but its nothing worth looking at and not hardly controlling interest.
And yes, they did share engines and platforms in the early to mid nineties, thats what i had said. Now what biznology said about the Avenger/Eclipse, could be true. I haven't really bothered to look into that or read about that, as i hate both cars
And you have to be careful when you say another car manufacturer "designed" a car for another.... usually its the free-lance designers that have worked with another manufacturer before that are currently designing this "other" car.... not necessarily a car coming from the other's "Design Studios".
By the way i'd like to see where you got your information from about the "Stealth, 3000GT, Laser, Eclipse, and Galant all having the same engine" from..... because that is not true. Oh yeah and Geo is not part of Daimler Chrysler (never was).... ex-indie manufacturer got bought by GM (who let them run a couple more years) before merging them into Chevrolet.
And to everyone else: remember that these cars are all different in different countries, even IF they are the same nameplate. Perfect example of this is Ford.... Fords are totally more decent overseas than in America, and they started here! You think Fords (note: NOT fjords) are bad in europe? wait till you see them over here! Same would go for mitsubishis and hondas... the ones you get come from different factories and you have different models in europe. So quality obviously is going to be different..... anyway, thats something to think about.
