Here for instance is one :

THesis : Should the sun have been the only source, all shadows ought to be parallel to each other. However, one can clearly see that not all of them are, which indicates falsification.

Antithesis: This argument is apparently void of all consequential thought. The problem lies in the lack of understanding about perspectives and projections of three-dimensional objects on two-dimensional plains. Aberrations are unavoidable. Shadows of objects will only appear parallel if the area upon which the shadows are thrown, are themselves even and if these shadows are regarded from a great distance, thereby minimizing perspective aberration

Clicky for a number of such explainations.

penn & teller covered this conspiracy theory in an episode of Bullshit!. It's really mostly propounded by people who do faulty research.

I think the most compelling reason that we actually did go to the moon is that the US government SUCKS at keeping secrets. Think of the massive number of people who would have to be keeping this from the people. It's just not possible logistically.

You can't.

A few (if not all) individuals need irrational beliefs (to some degree), in order to satisfy some fear and or finitude of existence: superstition, religion, conspiracy theory... it's all the same.

and i beg to differ with regards to religion. if correctly understood, religion is precisely the path towards experiencing the infinitude of existance

Yes, why?

As for "religion being precisely the path towards experiencing the infinitude of existence", I believe I agree with you to some extent (i.e. it could be a way of dealing with our finitude, although it's unlikely to get anywhere), but I'm interested in listening to your views

well the things you wrote in that post made me suspect you'r taking philosophy

And I am not a christian. I'm a Hindu. I don't know what Bible says or how it's interpreted by people. As I understand, religion is a way of making us realize the infinitude of a human being and of nature in general. It does not declare that you should believe the preachings just because the book or the saint says so. No. It provides logical and structred ways founded on reason and intelligence to actually experience this fact for ourselves.

I don't know whether this ^^ makes sense to you. However, this is not a topic of COR. It will come under unnecessary ridicule. So I would rather not comment more here.

That's really interesting. I will respect your decision not to talk about it in this topic, but I'm looking forward to reading more on Hinduism - I'm adding Wikipedia's entries on it to my "to read" list

I was going to post my opinion about the moon landing but if I did, I'd be breaking the ice between Omega_M and Lira.
