I thought the movie was ok
But it really separates the audience in terms of appeal...more towards the XY chromo spectrum(no shit eh).
Truthfully though I think alot of the side story like all the talk of male conquests and swearing was funny at the beginning but then seemed to be more of a filler and a quest for me to make it through in the rest of the movie. Don't get me wrong, I like my dirt, but there is a moment and timing for everything and at points(after about the first 30 or 45 minutes) I just found myself saying, "yes yes thats funny but lets move on with the main plot." I think the whole movie could have been edited down by about 30 minutes(maybe 45 my timing is probably slightly askew) ie. taking out all that silly swearing talk and keeping it minimal and spread out, that way its more funny when its brought up. I just think that horse was beaten too much and for too long into the ground. A joke here or there would have been a great juxtapose to the seriousness of the rest of the plot, but not a 5-10 minute scene of someone going on about shitting on a toilet or girlfriends sticking fists up his ace hole.
As for acting i think you and the other characters were great, although its always hard to judge you personally cause i know you in the "réalité figuré" and that makes for a hard jump into "movie-mode" state of mind. The bloke with the glasses there had a really strong scene I thought when enzo came to see him on his deck and he was slightly drunk, also when he confronted his gf at that party, thought that was good. The scene where you were talking with the manager of the gay bar and he eventually put that knife to your neck, that was intense and well played by you. The main character, enzo, i thought was quite weak and rigid, and at points I found myself erking at his monolgue points or when he was communicating on his own, especially the part when he first talks to his uncle, oh man that was so rigid i think they needed like a clown in the background riding a unicycle to add some soul or life into that scene..eek
As an independent film though I think it has alot of potential but seriouosly requires 3 things...
1)more attention to soundtrack(this could have carried the movie to a whole other level.. like im talking not one but a good 5 or 6 levels. There were a couple of points where their was music and at those points, the music worked great. There were many other parts though where music could have really enhanced the feelin or emotion in the scene, especially in the drier slower parts of the film. Music could also have been used to really expediate the parts where actions would speak louder than dialogue and a montage would save valuable film time and audience time. Im a stickler for soundtracks and rightfully so. On an aside it is very very difficult to make a amotionally strong scene in a movie without an accompaning soundtrack, one need to look no further than the biggest movies of all time. I mean imagine star wars without that powerful symphonic accompaniment produced by John Williams... It would be almost funny at points and nearly impossible for us to envision because that soundtrack is mentally grilled into our heads even if we could turn it off. I digress...more relatable or movies like pulp fiction or whole nine yards or even geese flying the wrong direction in fall. I guess because alot of the crucial points of the acting wasnt very strong, like the chief etc, the film needed something more to get the point across(he always looked like he was gonna laff after yelling and swearing so much) and haha kids with pipe wrenches in the garage hehe get em GUNS MAN!
2)Editing. Wow all i can say is there were alot of parts that could have been transitioned better or more or less axed out. Hey I'm no pro(or scientician) at this, and dont know the work required to do this, but as mentioned before: I think after sitting and watching this thru, especially if it was given to fresh eyes, unknown to the script or movie, would make a difference. There were alot of things in my opinion and im sure others that really had no bearing at all to the rest of the movie, and although funny at the time really needed the axe. For example, the bar scene, at the cooks restaurant (were he worked. I think it was after the gay club??) where he talks about the girl wanting to stick a fist up his ass... not necessary at all. At that point I was like "this isnt even funny... this isnt even gross out funny...this isnt even gross out movie thats pushing the limits for gross factor entertaining, just get onto the plot you are losing me" and from the audience reaction i think that was mostly mutual.
3)after all that i have forgotten my third point haha. I blame that on that friday feeling. But it probably had to do some scene/script rewriting oi cant remember
now this may seem bad but this is more constructive.
As i mentioned before i thought the movie was enjoyable and funny and had an intersting plot, but I think a handful of things held it back as mentioned. To be honest I think this movie would have been funnier if it had a drug side theme, because it would be analaguos to the crazy trip you guys all go on. But thats just my point of view.
As for you Ryan, I am deporting you anyways, buuuuut I thought you were solid and actually look good on the screen as a 'character'(there are some people who just dont)
can you tell ive taken film studies? haha
im very critique about movies
