^^^ I don't think I would worry about that if you take care of your cars.

I've had three Fords, all manual and all with Ford engines ('94 Escort, '97 Contour with the 170hp V6 Duratec, and a '04 Focus ZTS)...no major problems to report. Sure, they've made some cars that age rather poorly (Taurus comes to mind), but I honestly think that many of the quality criticisms are overblown.

If you take care of most decents cars, you're usually going to be ok...if you're hard on your cars and don't maintain them well, then yeah, some cars will stand up to abuse better than others.

I had few problems overall in those 10 years of owning Fords and none that related to tranny or engine...most were minor annoyances.

The Grand National GNX is definatly one of my top 5 fav cars. But I don't agree with modifying them. It's just wrong.
