I admit i'm a fanboy. But the fuck am I a fanboy for Tiesto.
Michael Boogerd is my hero. If you don't know who that is. then oh dear
I can and will defend Tiesto in these posts, because remarks against him like these are completely subjective nonsense. Posted in an overly-bias fashion due to people's incessant need to bitch on the guy who succeeded.
Groundhog - true, the MC was Over The Top excessive ballshit. But its stopped now hasn't it. My point was, it has stopped. Based on that, how can you make a reason up for Tiesto caring for the DJ Mag Poll because he has a MC?
Rebel & Groundhog & the rest - yeah he lost the plot. He absolutely sucked ass in 2004. 2005, some people say he improved. But ISOS4 ruined it for me. What a load of shit that was.
2006 - and does he really deserve the award? I'd say No. ISOS5 was even worse than the 4th one, however, i believe i straightened my view out with Tijs about this, and he confirmed it was rushed, it was a mistake to use Ableton to mix it, and it WAS a concept CD but without announcing it.
He is sincere about this statement he made. 3 months ago, he told me the same thing. Its a real pity, in hindsight, that he made this statement AFTER most of his harem voters would've already pledged their loyal vote to him already... for that reason, it does come off a lot like "i won't win, but i'll save face".
I think a lot caught up with him in the last 12 months. Because he wasn't number 1 last November, he could look at himself in the mirror, and without Touring so extensively he could also analyse himself, and realise for the first time in years just what he was doing wrong.
Thats changed since this time off (circa Jan-Mar 2006) and although ISOS5 was a huge disappointment, his livesets have proven to me this year, that he at least, is starting to:
a) come to terms with mixing cds
b) putting the effort in to structure & mix his sets back to the best of his ability.
He will never be a technically superb DJ, but c'mon, he doesnt need a popularity poll win to consolidate or gain popularity. While he obviously sees and speaks to the other TOp 10 DJs regularly - especially during the summer months at festivals, I'd say he got the idea from there, that it would be better that some new talents come to the foreground.
Is it that hard to give this man some shred of respect back?
If I had to answer that question, I'd say you guys are never gonna be satisfied by him again. The new album, he has worryingly said would sound like He's A Pirate. I pray to god that isn't true! But wait and see. Maybe he can still surprise us with a new mix CD concept at the end of next year... one that won't have 5-6 years of history and standards to ruin
