Really, make the songs the way YOU want to make them, then let the engineers and other people on the label worry about the technical details. Whatever they do, I guarantee that they will not (intentionally) make your song sound like crap on vinyl...

There's no way in hell this track will be any good, because so far he's asked countless questions which any knowledge of the genre will answer instantly. As I've told him- if he's so fucking interested in the conventions, he should just go and listen to lots of music and hear them himself.

The longer, the better imo; it's easier to edit than to extend. However, should you like only introduce a new instrument every say 32 beats, that may well qualify as boring. But it's been done, interesting long tracks; Endre - Starport Indra comes to mind (I think that was 13m+). I hate it when the climax breaks down too soon.
