what i wouldn't give to see the look on Chris Mathews's face when he found out about this
he prolly looked like someone shot his dog...serves him right, the old bastard. he'll prolly claim that the issue is "too complicated now" to cover it like he covered the whole Macaca incident a la "PlameGate" |
Hmm, perhaps, or we could hope that Matthews actually puts such quotes in context on fictional stories, especially those stories based on the insanities of war like that of Vietnam. Perhaps that's something that McCain could attest to, and perhaps that's why he even ENDORSED Webb's book:
| quote: | From Publishers Weekly
Webb's cultural and political portrayal of Vietnam 25 years after the war's end is delivered with such bold strokes and magical detail that it really doesn't matter that the plot itself is relegated to the backseat. This is a highly personal and empathetic look at today's Vietnam, a land of misery and inequity, yet one still vibrantly alive. The story follows the experiences of Brandon Condley, an ex-Marine whose job it is to find missing American soldiers, dead or alive. Condley is trying to track down Theodore Deville, an army grunt who not only deserted his unit in 1969 and killed a fellow serviceman, but then joined the ranks of the enemy. Condley is convinced Deville is still alive, operating somewhere in southeast Asia's underground economy. Webb introduces a rich cast of supporting characters as Condley pursues his quarry across Vietnam, Australia, the former Soviet Union and Thailand. Among the most delicately etched is Dzung, a former South Vietnamese officer now relegated, like thousands of others on the losing side, to a menial station in life, one that he and his family have no hope of escaping. Such characters, as well as the highly textured mood and atmosphere that Webb creates, tend to further eclipse the main narrative and shift the focus to the moral consequences and social fallout of the war. This detailed, lovingly drawn portrait of Vietnam reveals a sad, tortured country that has never recovered from the horrifying events of a quarter-century ago. Major print and radio advertising. (Sept. 4)Forecast: Webb (Fields of Fire) is no stranger to the bestseller lists; endorsements from heavy hitters like Sen. John McCain will help put him there once again.

Of course we should expect Allen to know everything about Vietnam because he was there with McCain and Webb serving, wasn't he?
Oh wait, dang. Not another GOP skirting the Vietnam war? Shoot, sorry.
You GOPers are funny. What fucking issues do you have left? You are down to nothing but sliming the fuck out of your opposition at all stops. You got your Senate leader telling you to ignore the biggest issue of this campaign:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006...D8KVN0K00.shtml
So I guess we all can understand why you're going ad hominem style rather than attacking the issues. Of course you won't listen to some of your own more experienced Conservative commentators:
| quote: | Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, warned Republicans that scare tactics against Democrats will not succeed in increasing social or economic conservative voters on Election Day.
“The big-spending, high-deficit, morally-deficient Republican Party hasn’t anything to offer conservatives except Halloween scare tactics about the Democrats. But since the GOP majority in Congress has engaged in an unprecedented spending spree, conservatives know that Democrats cannot be any worse and that divided government may lead to less spending,” Viguerie said.
“And conservatives have learned that, while Republicans sometimes provide significant symbolism on social issues, in truth, many of them have a disdain for values voters,” he added.
“Trying to frighten conservatives by yelling ‘Nancy Pelosi’ and ‘Harry Reid’ won’t work this time."

So why does it truly matter anyway?
I have to hear the local radio of our state AG Phil Kline going after his opposition, a former GOP man who turned Democrat because he had enough of the insanity of the extremist Right running our state into the fucking ground. And then of course there's the slime of Bond going after his opponent in Missouri - Talent that little slimy fucking weasel won't even discuss Iraq, the fucking war he's supported Bush on at all stops (not that Talent supported the troops very well anyway: http://capwiz.com/iava/bio/?id=352). When the subject is brought up, Talent goes after McKaskill's finances instead and refuses to even talk about THE issue of the election (of course his hands aren't terribly clean in their own right on this regard: http://www.firedupmissouri.com/talent_paseo_securities). Typical.
But hey, let's not stop there with all the fun. Here's another local Bushite, and sadly to say a fellow KU Alumni, caught up in his own bullshit with Foley connections:

Then again, you guys seem to have more than just one issue with pages lately:

But hey, corruption is abounds with you guys, such as one of your boys out in Nevada:

S. Florida's doing quite swimmingly too:

Going after his fucking family, no less:

Yes sir, no slimeball tactics from the GOP these days. All positive. All current, present-day issues. Keep at it, Q. You give me the hearty chuckles!
