It's rather you which have a hatred against your own country!
French ppl are not narrow-minded! We don't boycot neither US Cinema nor US Sportwear!!
But we have a critism spirit and we can see that globalisation don't always bring us the best look of american culture! I'm sorry but Mc Donalds is fuckin food IMO and in those of a lot of ppl (not only from France for sure!)...
Maybe it's a conservative mentality but not a narrow-minded one! We're just next to our traditions and you've to respect it! |
If you had read my posts more carefull, you'd have understood that saying "against your own country" makes no sense to me : I only consider France to be the country I live in, I don't "belong" to it in terms of culture, traditions and other nationalist feelings this country can give to me.
I agree I was being harsh while at school with you all, but isn't that better to point out problems that exist in the country you live in than countries where you don't ? I find that much more effective and if you want people to be aware of all these problems and maybe find a solution. (not 20% of the French for example realize that the country is years behind when it comes to technology and Internet development).
Is that a crime to dis oneself's country ?
Notice all the Americans on the board who don't like the US.
And it's my own right to feel upset about these issues. I'll develop more later.
I agree with you with you that not ALL French boycot American stuff, but the opposition is pretty strong, and absolutely hypocrit too, because those buying American goods will be the ones complaining about US invasion in France so...
Extulas, see, what you said doesn't surprise me at all. Just another example to show that the French are generally very arrogant (I have many more examples) but it's true about the Americans and The French Canadians as well...
Like Zarathustra said, maybe it's even worse in Quebec...From the few I talked to, they sounded even more arrogant and stubborn than the French from France. Again, I'm not saying that applies to EVERYBODY, just the general impression.
