Waste of money having both unless you are loaded. Don't know why anyone needs two virtual analogues, even if they have different characteristics. Unless they have a shit tonne of other instruments and want a very specific sound from the JP - namely the supersaw/feedback oscillator.
Theres plenty of other synths that do things which neither the Virus nor JP can ever do. V-Synth can do variphrasing. Microwave XT can do complex FM. An Alesis Fusion will give you a pretty convincing piano and plenty of other sample playback stuff.
If you wan't variety, its a better idea to get one of every type and broaden the palette of sounds you can make.
As for the JP being the king of pads...Virus is very good at making pads because of how flexible the LFOs and mod matrix is. The polyphony is also way higher than the JPs. Way higher. Even on the B and C models. One of the greatest strengths of the Virus is its ability to make complex, evolving pads but then NI Absynth is pretty stonking at that too because you can import samples in place of oscillators, thereby building sounds out of timbres which are too complex to create using subtractive synthesis.
