250,000 is not a small town by any means. everyone will not know your business. there will be plenty of diversity and cultural stimulations for the average person. question is, where are you in your life right now. is going to clubs every weekend very important to you? would you be moving along, or do u have a significant other that would move with you (and brave the lonely lonely first several weeks/months). can u be satisfied with regular bars/theatre/clubs etc for most of your entertainment. does the city offer other recreational activities that interest you. good sport teams, drama clubs etc. with the new raise, is it feasible to regularily travel to detroit. do u have friends in windsor and/or detroit. if you are making this decision based on if this city has a big enough edm scene for you, you are probably not ready to move, but if clubs and parties are just a small part, then do so more research on other aspects

god, i ramble on things when i can't sleep that really i don't give a fuck (npo )

no I was living in Los Angeles then. Otherwise I would have come out for sure when all of you came down to NYC that weekend. I was actually talking to andrew before hand saying how much I wished I was back home to see all of you when you came through.

Me too. And hell, if you're raising a family, this kind of place is pretty much perfect.

I've lived in Cambridge my whole life. I'll go to Toronto on weekends for fun and stuff, but I do not want to live there. I love my city. Lots of nice people, giving lots of common courtesy. I feel safe living here, and walking anywhere ALONE, at any time of day. Unlike most big citys, like Toronto thats for sure.

Unlike huge citys, most of our houses have huge lots, with lots of GRASS! Remember that stuff people? grass? hmm? lol. People with beautiful gardens, kids playing in their backyards and front lawns, because they actually have them. Able to walk beside my house and have room between them, not just 2 feet. I would never want to live in a big city. Its too cold feeling. So much concrete everywhere, everything is fackin paved. I was born in Toronto, but we moved to Cambridge when I was 2. My dad didn't want to raise us there, and i'm so glad he made that move, because I love living where I do. I can find a great job here or K-W, and don't need to move to some huge city. On a summer day theres kids playing, old ladys watering their grass, and other than that pretty quiet. Great place to raise a family.

Love living here, love working here.

Love all your points Dannyboy! That's pretty much what makes me 'hesitate' to wanna move from Collingwood to TO, why I think I'd almost rather just move to Barrie or Newmarket eventually... but then again, the convenience of seeing all my friends soooooo easily and soo much if say, I lived in East York (which is where I think I'd wanna live if I moved to TO)

As for electronica scenes... Collingwood had a decent scene, and I am sure Jaime would contest this as well... because we had AWESOME nights at Monsoon Lounge. (though I am not sure how active the scene is since Nathan and I are gone...)

We had an EXCELLENT ONE (for Collingwood)... actually, for Collingwood and its size and population and everything, it was better than excellent... and that all started Halloween 2004 when I discovered Nate, the manager of Monsoon, a sushi lounge and martini bar, spun trance and techno. Such a fluke too, my senior manager was in this restaurant and told me he saw an advertisement for this night! I checked it out, and it was awesome, even though for the first many months, it was often just me at the very end, and only me + a few others (who i didnt know) thru the rest the night.

That's really where the scene started in Collingwod,a nd I'm glad I was apart of it getting it started. I remember I bugged and bugged Matt to come out and check it out... finally, months after the fact he did, and he loved it. eventually he got to play beside Nate, then eventually it was a standard thing... and they became known to us at just "Marshall & Goulet"... then Matt left for school in teh fall of 05 and we got Marty McFly on board.... there's a fucking top notch guy, spins breaks. He actually introduced me that genre and over time made me not despise it.

It all started in 04 on Sunday nights, then eventually moved to Fridays on spring of 2005. And then got shafted to Wednesday on the beg of 06, but even those were a fucking blast! I had the BEST TIMES of my life in at Monsoons listening to my two friends Matta and Nate spin up a storm, plus Marty and all the other DJs we found that wanted air time!

It was fantastic and I'm so sad to say that chapter of Collingwood "EDM" life is dead!

I wish Nate was still around Matt, so badly. I miss that man... and all the good times that abounded.

To this day, Matt, You and Nate one of my faouvourite DJ duos that I know personally... first or second. You guys just had a fucking vibe and I loved the your two sounds blended. For energy, together, I dont think ANYONE I know tops you too!!! I need to hear another Marshall & Goulet set in Collingwood...

maybe my basement? haha

Born and raised in Dundas, I was forced into a childhood filled with pre-pubescent sexual acts, drug experimentation, and fantastic house league sports activities. No gangs, very little violence, no murders to speak of, and a tightly knit community. Never locked our doors at the house, or car - why? because we just didn't have to. Beautiful landscape, trails, a huge non-commercialized waterfall, the escarpment with a peak that on a clear day you can see 75 km NE, all the way to the CN Tower. Less pollution, more trees, people who are actually polite and say 'hello' to each other in passing.

With all that being said - once you hit the age of 16, you just want to get the fuck out. And ten years later, at 26 - i'm on the verge of jumping off the beautiful escarpment and cursing myself as I plummet to my ultimate death.

Small Town
( John Cougar Mellencamp )

Well, I was born in a small town
And I live in a small town
Prob'ly die in a small town
Oh, those small communities

All my friends are so small town
My parents live in the same small town
My job is so small town
Provides little opportunity

Educated in a small town
Taught the fear of Jesus in a small town
Used to daydream in that small town
Another boring romantic that's me

I've seen it all in a small town
Had myself a ball in a small town
Married an L.A. doll and brought her to this small town
Now she's small town just like me

No, I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

Got nothing against a big town
Still hayseed enough to say
Look who's in the big town
But my bed is in a small town

Well, I was born in a small town
And I can breathe in a small town
Gonna die in this small town
And that's prob'ly where they'll bury me ...

So true. My parents never lock their vehicles (one being a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition), and theres always like a side door or something unlocked in our house.

We have an alarm system, but its NEVER on.

And i know lots of ppl that dont lock their cars when downtown or out at the mall, grocery stores, movie theatre, etc etc.

You just dont need to worry about that mess here in Collingwood. And you NEVER even think twice about opening up your front door if a stranger is at it u dont know.

I remember there was a thread a while back about whether or not TAs would opening up their front door if they saw it was someone they didnt know. You wouldnt even think twice about it in Collingwood. it would be strange and very rude not to. The safety of the matter simply isnt a concern in a small town like it is in TO... and i love that.

Id hate to have to be so concerned over such simple things like that.
