Well I haved live in SoCal my whole life. Somehow i have managed to avoid the materialistc shallow people. I have met some of the coolest people I have ever met in the EDM scene. I have met many open minded, free thinking, great, intelligent, caring people in the rave/EDM scene in SoCal. You just need to know how to look.

Personally I am staying in SoCal cause of the weather and the great music.

I live in South Central so I think thats why i have avoided the materialistic people.

California in general has become the biggest DJ market in the world, and clubbers in the LA area are constantly bombarded with so many options that their tolerance level to what is and isn't a good show becomes very skewed. Too many options can easily lead to arrogance and a general lack of reverence to what electronic dance music in all genres is all about. Having had a chance to travel and meet clubbers in many places over the past year, I've seen wild fluctuations in the expectations that clubbers have from certain DJs. It all really comes down to where people live and the amount of choices put before them.

There's a lot of truth to this. People get very jaded.

I totally agree, when i started to go to Avalon about a year & half ago, i met cool people the very first nite i went. From that point on ive met nothing but the coolest of the cool. Each week meeting @ least 5 or so more

On a typical night when a high-line DJ is spinning (Lawler, Zabiela, Burridge, etc), i can honestly say i would run into at least 100 of my friends. We dont all roll in together, but all meet up around that one booth to the right of the dancefloor & have a hell of a time. Then the majority of us all go to the dancefloor. It's always a lot of fun!

that being said, i will also agree that the Avalon scene has changed (people wise) since the summer of 05. guys in general who go there to pick up, tweekers, & people who are there just on a whim (especially 1st time e-tards whose mission in life is to get w/every tranny that gives them a 2nd look) totally ruin the vibe!

ive had a great time everytime ive gone to Avalon, its a lot easier for me i guess since i know a lot of people & even tho i dont meet as many people as i used to, i still meet a few more every week

i have this saying "Cool people hang around w/cool people" & it may take a while but cool people will eventually find other cool people.

I don't think I belong here. I should move to Colorado or something lol.

i do agree on the materialistic and superficial part, but thats what this world is about.

i grew up in LA and have had the opportunity to live in more laid back places. but i must say that shit drove me crazy because the people there are so laid back that they have no drive or ambition. they rather let things happen than make things happen.

drive and ambition stem from the want to satisfy ones needs. this means looking to material things as motovators. so yea, people in LA drive big cars and have nice clothes and all the bling bling because they worked for it and it makes them happy. this should not be looked down upon because it shows that the people here stirve to succeed.

its all about perception. it no longer bothers me seeing so much materialism because i see it as a motovator to do better for myself.

people always think the grass is greener on the other side.
