I guess I'll chime in.

I have an Ecler Nuo4; I don't use the MIDI anymore (no reason to use Traktor), but it's there if I need it (perhaps for some light production?).

I only have 2 CDJs, but the middle two channels are hooked up to my computer, one for external sound card (music and video player) and one for the onboard sound (games, embedded media on websites, etc.).

I really like the mixer, but then again, I haven't really used anything else. It hasn't been turned off for quite a while.

I do think Pioneer DJM-400 is a good buy, but do consider others like the Vestax mixers and the Mackie D.2 (which wasn't available when I bought mine).

the kills are useful, and i use them quite a bit. But if you want to gradually take the bass out, say towards the end of a phrase or something, then bring it back in at the start of the next phrase, the rotary knobs dont take it down far enough and its a huge jump from -16db to -infinity (or whatever its called)

But all in all, an ace mixer

I've actually never seen this (that I can recall).

One thing I forgot to mention about the Nuo4 (and perhaps most if not all Ecler mixers) is the lack of a VU meter for each channel. All you get is a 'Signal' LED to see if there's a signal going through the channel, and a VU meter for the PFL (pre-fader listen).

It's really not a show-stopper, and quite easy to get used to.

I just noticed the Technics mixer was set up in the same way, so thought I'd mention that.

Check this out, a subtle, but neat feature.

Flip the kills down on the bass and his, cutting them out but leave the mid on and in the middle. Now twist the bass and hi knobs- they have a subtle filter esque effect on the sound. It makes sense that they affect the mids as the mid +/- is only 12db while the lows and his are 16 db.

dxm06 was my first mixer... i loved it . the effects are cool and you can do some wicked cool stuff w/ them.

ie/ hold in the tap button until it turns green, turn effects knob all the way to the right, move effects fader up a little (until you see green), and press the effects button (makes a cyborg/robot effect).

also you can do alright buildups with the echo and 2x beat effects

i liked the filter too

there are kill buttons for the high, mid, and low for each channel

you can also fine tune the crossfader by turning a little knob (for scratching or mixing). the djm800 doesnt even have that option (it just has 3 settings)

the only bad thing about the mixer is the sound quality and of course cheap build, but imo its the best mixer out there for 200 bucks and perfect for a beginner.

then next year, you can get the xone92 or djm800

if you get a djm 400 or any mixer that's in the 500$ range, you're gonna wanna upgrade it in a year or so, so i reccomend getting a cheepie and then upgrading...

I've been using my Stanton SMX-251 for 2 1/2 years... its a basic 3 channel mixer, 3-band eq (-26 - +9 dB), no kill switches or effects. But it was cheap and it does the job.

I recently used a mates new A&H Xone:62. That thing absolutely blew me away. Kinda pricey though.
One gripe with the Xone:62 - theres no cue-master fader for the headphone output.
