The bouncer is not standing there guarding your drink for you until you come back.

It is not difficult to slip something in a drink, especially in a dark environment.

So, if the extended license is not mandatory, that means it is up to the venue whether they will allow drinks in the washroom? and they have to pay money to be able to do this? that's retarded and completely pointless.

No. Neither does Vegas. Those 2 cities are major tourist attractions so they need to be more lax on their public drinking laws than other cities. Moscow doesn't count either. That city has no laws.

As for New york, can you really walk down the street in Downtown NY with a beer in your hand without attracting attention from the cops?

mexico does not have open container laws. And if they have implemented them recently, they are probably only in the tourist areas and authorities have most likely have taken cues from their northern neighbours on how to make money off of rich tourists.

But last time i checked there were no open container laws in mexico.

Surprised no one mentioned this... Quebec allows drinking in public, so long the appearance of liquor is concealed. I've been drinking in the streets and shopping downtown MTL since I was 17. Anytime you buy a beer at a dépanneur (convenience store), the beer is ALWAYS in a paper bag. So long you drink it out of the bag, you won't get stopped.

The last time I was in Mexico, last Christmas (in Cabo) the cop made us poor our drinks into a plastic cup. The cops had tons of plastic cups in their squad cars haha.

It's also legal to drink in a vehicule (if you're not driving) like in a cab which is also awesome.

I love mexico...

I think this is a great idea! Also, when I was at home in August, I noticed the steps taken against rohypnol namely drinks allowed anywhere and stoppers in the tops of bottles with the straw in them (this also minimizes SPILLAGE!).

YES IT IS!

There shold be no fucking law for that. If a club doesnt wanna take that risk, then it should merely be the club that say you cant take a drink up there.

wow...look at how long it took for even this to happen...this is from FIVE YEARS AGO:

quote:

LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ONTARIO

STANDING COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

COMITÉ PERMANENT DES ORGANISMES GOUVERNEMENTAUX

Wednesday 5 September 2001 Mercredi 5 septembre 2001

The committee met at 1005 in room 228.

INTENDED APPOINTMENTS
EVELYN DODDS

Review of intended appointment, selected by opposition party and third party: Evelyn Dodds, intended appointee as vice-chair, Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario board of directors.

...

Mr (Tony) Martin: There's another issue perhaps that you could comment on for me. It was an issue that was brought to my office just a week or so ago. It may not seem like much to somebody who may not be on a regular basis in licensed establishments or running one, but it's illegal to bring your drink into the washroom.

Mrs Dodds: Never having tried to do that, I didn't know that.

Mr Martin: Yes, it is. The problem that's identified is with the proliferation of all kinds of interesting drugs now out there, like the date rape drug for example. If you leave your drink for a minute to go to the washroom, by the time you come back you don't know what could be done to it. So you either down it, which could create its own problems, I guess, or you leave it there, go to the washroom, come back and then not know.

This particular individual, and I think he was speaking on behalf of a number of proprietors, is claiming that not being allowed to carry your drink with you into the washroom is a bit over the top and is creating problems in this other area that are hard to police and manage.

Mrs Dodds: The role of the AGCO is to enforce the regulations that already are on the books. Therefore, I don't anticipate that my job would involve rewriting those rules. That would be a matter for the Legislature, I think, to enact and then the AGCO would enforce them.

Mr Martin: OK. Thank you very much.

FWIW, I think there shouldn't be an additional cost to extend the license to cover washrooms...but this is better than not allowing booze in washrooms at all.

You could drink in the street in NY back in the day- Giulianni put an end to it.

But you can still drink on the streets of Miami!!! You can even leave the Clevelander w/your drink and walk along Ocean Drive- so sweet.

The 'date rape' justification for this law is ridiculous. My prediction is that this law will last just long enough for the first serious fight/stabbing via beer bottle in a guys bathroom.

that's why they proposed it for WOMEN ONLY... (fair, eh? bastards)

And the quoted "vice-president of education in the Ryerson University Students' Union, Nora Loreto" from the original article is the biggest airhead Ryerson has ever seen - I spent enough time with her in my class to realize that... and now she's not only "getting involved" in the Rye community and whatnot but is also being asked for an opinion on these matters. Fucken awesome! (makes me wonder are most of the others "interested" in politics and running for these council spots and whatnot idiots just like that, or am I just being biased?)
