good job bro...do u get stage fright at all? i kno playin in house parties is pretty easy unless ur playin in one big ass room but havin a shitload of people infront of ya can be a lil different for some people....back when i started teaching at seminars with about 500-600 people i had a lil bit of stage fright even tho u could put me in a class with 50 people and i was perfectly fine... the trick i used was in the beginning of the class i would just focus mainly on one person for like the first 5-10 mins that would just help me get comfortable up there and then i could start watchin everyone else... after a few seminars i was able to talk to 500 people without a problem...so if u get stage fright try that or look up more stuff about it online

eye contact is key too

don't get focused on what you're doing

make eye contact with people around the room, scan the room often

smile and make sure others are smiling

thanks for the advice mike...

well this is my first club gig in general as well as my first residency so it will be an experience to have a club audience as opposed to drunk college students or anything else. i dont really get stage fright or anything but i do get damn jittery before gigs..usually passes as the night goes on but i hope i dont get too nervous as its a club lol. im going to check out the sound system soon and ill make sure to take into account all thats been said about clipping and sound control. ive heard it mentioned here and there that there is sometimes a delay from the booth to the floor...i'm used to monitoring the master with my headphones completely on anyways so i dont think that would be much of a problem (or would it?)

alright thanks once more for all your advice

Hey Dude,

Conger Rats!!!!

Give us a shout if you have any questions. Haven't read through the thread but will be happy to give my two cents worth.

To be honest though, if you managed to get the gig, you are probably at a state where you have the goods to do the do.

Just remember, music policy, be polite and don't engage in any conversation where one DJ starts to talk badly about another. People are treacherous.

Good on you!

All the best
Nem

PS
What Mr. T.Morello said.

EDIT
By the way, with your music, make sure that you vary your sound because you will have club regulars who will pick up very quickly if yo are playing the same music, week in week out.
The other thing to remember is that you are a very important part of the club. The owner has put his faith in you. Whilst they may get big names, you are the backbone.
Names may come and go, some will rock and others will suck. When they suck you are like the go to guy to save the night.
Good resident DJs are hard to find but they are the lifeblood of a club. Make sure you perform in a professional way and deliver.

nem always speaks the truth

resident djs should always deliver, the fall back guy, the one you can count on for a good set

and yes, don't talk smack about other djs, it's a smaller community than you'd think and things can come back to bite you in the ass when you'd least expect

regulars will tire quickly if you're not keeping it fresh, you need them

woops, didn't read the update. ah well.

damn you DJs with gf's. 20 bucks says you'll have women throwing themselves at you.

then, me and all my DJ friends who are single, it doesn't happen to us for some reason. i mean, we're way too goodlooking for this to be occuring!
