Or his vocal delivery for that matter ;] (Personally I quite like it, apart from in live performances)

Well it wasn't bad on their first album and their releases around then, and they tended to put a lot of treatment on his vocals to give them a very ethereal feel. On Second Coming they were pretty awful, but they played around that by having John Squire just play along the vocal line very loudly.

Perhaps the fact that i had just been listening to F.E.A.R kinda made me a little bit biased, but there's some complete gems by the Stone Roses and Ian Brown that can't be discredited as less than genius.

As for the quality of the band members, Mr Marr was an absolute genius. He did a lot more than write the guitar parts. The rest of the band you could perhaps write off as lacklustre, but i think the legacy of The Smiths and the loyalty of the fanbase really speaks for itself.

Yeah I noticed his vocals went very much downhill on the second album, from reading various stories/articles that this was partly down to his drug use.

Have you listened to any of the Ian Brown solo records? His voice seems to have improved from then, but I don't really know how much of that is down to practice, or having a good producer for his records though

Yeah I've read a lot about The Smiths in a hefty Morrissey book I've just finished reading, supposedly he wrote most of Joyce's drum parts, and all of the music. But I once read an interview with Andy Rourke saying that he wrote the bass parts, but I'm not really sure if theres any truth in this as Johnny Marr was obviously the main creative force within the Smiths

Marr wrote all of the music! Which i think is incredible, but not taking anything away from Rourke, who played that bass like a mofo. Especially on Barbarism begins at home, one of my favourite basslines ever.

Yeahh he did indeed play like 'a mofo' haha. My personal favourite is on 'What Difference Does It Make', particularly the Hatful Of Hollow version. The bassline compliments the guitar so well!

Even after a night out clubbing with my best friends, even if we've just seen Marco V, or Villalobos, or Jon Mancini, or Scot Project, or 2 Many DJ's or WHOEVER! I always find myself either

1. Getting in a taxi with a girl and humming Handsome Devil.

2. Stumbling home with all my friends and singing What Difference Does It Make, or This Charming Man.

The Smiths are an integral part of my life!

Haha, I dont think it's that fitting for when you're going home with a girl with lyrics like

"A boy in the bush
Is worth two in the hand
I think i can help you get through your exams
Oh, you handsome devil"

and

"And when we're in your scholarly room
Who will swallow whom ?
When we're in your scholarly room
Who will swallow whom ?
You handsome devil"

Nevermind though haha, still a brilliant song
