Im hearing from sources that the battle scenes drag on and get annoying because of putting the 3d images in a gameplay made for 2d. Is this true? I might pick it up tomorrow but if it is annoying enough I probably won't bother.

no way not at all i would liken the graphic and fights to ps final fantasy 7 they even change the look of the weapons when yuo equip them i love when games do that
