Actually, there is a disturbing trend of over-production going on in a lot of trance music lately. The compression rate between highs and lows gets squeezed so much to make the tracks sound big and bold, the tracks don't leave much breathing space between the frequencies. As a result, when played on a sound-system that amplifies this, you are left with a 'wall of sound' that drowns out harmonic dynamics.

this is a good point.. i personally love that 'wall of sound' feel but it makes melodic elements hard to fit into the mix; i've discovered this myself when producing. i think this is why you tend to hear less huge supersaws in uplifting trance than you did in years gone by.. they normally get substituted for softer, shorter synths that take up less room in the frequency table

a lot of times speakers don't respond well to high bpms, for example the subs in my car lag the music by like 1/2 a beat sometimes

Also playing mp3's adds to the problem

Yeah, that's always the way, isn't it. As soon as you notice you're being beaten it was suddenly just "messing around" and we're all idiots who don't have a sense of humour. At least have some spine to take responsibility of your actions.

there are a lot of anal people on these forums :/

I love trance being played loud, but it has to be equalized well. I have never been to a club before (I just turned 18 however, I think I will go check out some clubs in seattle) But when the bass hits just right in a trance song, I feel pretty good
