I mean, beauty is only skin-deep, right? Right.

Next up: "Will she still love me even though I'm fat? Do I *need* to lose weight in order to be more attractive, or can she accept me for who I am?"
"I am in shape. Round is a shape."

Although I'm thinking this is the point you were getting at.

Indeed. It's easy to say "Just do it" (no I don't work for Nike), but it's not that easy to actually go ahead with it. Everybody has their own habits and addictions, and it can be hard to break.
Thing is, it takes work for those that have to change their lifestyle in order to get healthier. Most peoples' lifestyles have been so accustomed to not realizing that it does, in fact, take quite a bit of effort to break one's everyday cycle.

... I'm really bad at expressing my thoughts.

My polisci teacher mentioned that American kids consume 8 times as much food as third world children.

The problem is distribution. Morally, I do not believe that food should be sold to the highest bidder. Who is to say that someone who is more financially providential DESERVES to live a healthier life than someone who is not.

That being said, America is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, therefore purchases more food than most countries. An average American kid gets home from school, walks into his kitchen and opens the cabinets, to find COUNTLESS things to eat. I'm not saying that this kid shouldn't be able to have a large array of food to choose from...but as the choices multiply, obviously they will choose the product that is the easiest to make...given the overall lack of motivation in this country.

laziness + wealth = obesity. simple as that.

It's not the taste of the food - it's the MSG.

I thought I was safe adopting the same premise those anti-smoking people have.

the problem with obesity tends to affect the lower-class moreso than the upper class. people with money can afford to eat good (aka healthy), whereas poor people are forced to eat cheap junk food and fast food which causes more obesity and health problems.

Even the poor of "industrialized" countries are a lot wealthier than the poor of "developing" ones. And in some countries, being fat is actually considered a sign of prosperity, so people would take it as a goal rather than something to be avoided.

not necessarily. it can be expensive to eat healthy, but you don't NEED money to eat properly. in the case of lower class people, the problem may be lack of education and not caring about their appearances. but there are also a large percentage of upperclass people that are nice and plump because they can afford the extravegant lifestyle and work less.

It's not about the money - it's about personal preference. Are you athletic, or a couchpotato? Do you watch what you eat, or do you eat carelessly, upon impulse?

Answer to Obesity: SELF-CONTROL.
