I have heard the effect many times in some songs!
What are you doing compressing or limiting the wave on the off-beats of the kick?


But yet still I do not hear it in the original sample?

np, as stated before in this thread, it is a widley used technique.

and i don't know the "technical" way to explain it, but basically you use an input signal to control the pad. in this case i used the kick to duck the synth.

and, it's in the original sample lol, dunno why you can't hear it man!

Heh, yeah... stickies.

I think the point is, if a sidechain effect is done well, you shouldn't really notice it. Even though I'd say it's pretty noticeable in the sample posted, that should be an indication of what I mentioned earlier - subtle compression sounds better than the insane pumping you hear in some tracks.

Can the same not be done using automation? Or is this the preferred and simpler method?
