Meet the 360 Elite!
* First of all, the black Xbox 360 will be officially known as the Xbox 360 Elite.
* The Elite will be manufactured in limited quantities, possibly a few hundred thousand.
* Everything included with the unit will be black, including the case, controller, and Live headset. The packaging will be new as well.
* The Elite will cost $479 and will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.
* Eventually, a white version of the Elite will replace Xbox 360 Premium packs. Presumably, this will happen shortly after the Elite is sold out. Once this happens, Premiums will include the 120 GB HDD and HDMI.
* There is no solid date for the Elite-to-Premium transition, though it is estimated to happen late summer or early fall.
* The Elite runs cooler than the current Premium, but it is unknown if it takes advantage of 65nm chips.
* Prices could remain the same when Premiums convert to 120GB/HDMI, but a price cut may still occur once the 65nm chips are implemented.
* The HD-DVD player will definitely not be bundled with the Elite and Microsoft stands by its claim that it has no plans to ever integrate an HD-DVD drive into the Xbox 360.
* There are no plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premium packs.

What's left, officially, for Sony?
Konami and Square have both hinted in recent interviews that the cost of developing "blockbuster" games has risen so dramatically that exclusivity is really not feasible - but I don't think either have made "official" announcements regarding the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear series. |
Well, Sony's list of exclusives is dwindling to be sure. Not only is Devil May Cry confirmed for the 360 and PC, but I also read that the new Ace Combat game is going to the 360 as well (and, so far, its going to be exclusive to it! http://www.gadgetophile.com/ace-com...-360-exclusive/
I found that to be very surprising) Also, like you mentioned, Konami, Square and a plethora of other 3rd party developers have expressed their interest in going multi-platform with their franchises due to hectic development costs and lack of confidence in the PS3 thanks to slower than expected sales.
To be honest, after all of these recent 360 announcements, I wouldnt be surprised in the slightest to see MGS 4 come over to Microsoftland in one form or another.
But, despite all of this, I still think Sony has some good shit going for it. For one, Heavenly Sword is looking to dominate. Its basically going to be the God of War of PS3. Thats enough to get at least a few people excited. Then you have Lair, a gorgeous looking game that supposedly makes the best use of the Sixaxis seen yet. Also, Warhawk will likely make a big splash come this Fall. Other than that however, besides those 3rd party games that still have a chance of going multi, not much else until 2008. Then, we'll have the PS Home, which COULD turn into something phenomenal if done right.
To be honest, I'm not really enjoying the fact that all of these games are coming out on both the 360 and PS3. Okay, so I understand that from a financial perspective, its probably the best move to make. But from a creative aspect, it seems as though there is very little reason to own both a PS3 and 360. This is why the Wii seems all the more attractive; not only is it cheaper than both of them, but it also contains several games that will be exclusive to it.
