I remember I got into an argument for just this reason. people who use it as a reason to say you can't be credible because you use wikipedia are just looking for reasons to find a problem with an otherwise good debate.

Sometimes - but if it is the sole basis for your argument (which for some in the PDD it is), then it doesn't make for a very credible argument.

I 100% agree with you there. wikipedia should never be your sole nor your primary source of information ever. it should really just spark your interest to research more. and even saying that it could be the first resource to go to to get general information and what not.

Yeah, I've used it as background before, but I make sure to find verification through at least a second source before including information I read there in a paper or something.

Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information.

That's the thing about Wiki - people who use it and can only source the Wiki page aren't really doing anything at all, and are susceptible to the shit information that finds its way into pages.

However, if you're relatively intelligent it does seem like Wiki is a great place to find well organized summary information that will many times lead you directly to a legitimate source where I've generally been able to make a legitimate citation.

Long story short, Wiki is an absolutely wonderful tool - if you know how to use it.
