So why do you think that rap isn't music? What definition of "music" are you using?
Because most humans are really, really cognitively lazy and will use broad (and often incorrect) generalizations in place of thorough and careful thought whenever they think they can get away with it.
Talent at what? If we're going purely by abundance of "musicality," ability to write and play series of tones that work out musically complex and engaging ideas, then trance isn't where it's at for the most part, either. I agree, Britney doesn't have a lot of talent. I don't even think that many of her fans would consider her all that talented compared to other female vocalists, although I could be wrong about that. But talent at writing or performing music isn't the be-all-end-all of why people can legitimately take an interest in a genre of music. |
Well, i know i'm not being too fair here, but in all honesty... every single human being has a bias of some sort. Maybe that makes them less open-minded, but it's their bias. When I say talent, i'm strictly referring to the artists ability to write either fun or meaningful lyrics in a rhythmic fashion while keeping either a simple or complex beat, but still maintaining a GOOD, strong vocal base. Britney Spears has a terrible voice. She doesn't even write her own music. Some rap artists write their own music, which is somewhat respectable, but their vocals are really bad(in my opinion), and their lyrics hold no meaning to society. How does "rapin' dat bitch" or whatever hold ANY good value or meaning? I know i'm generealizing, but when i hear RAP (not R&B), I hear nothing but messages of hate. How is that talent?
