I DJ at a top 40 club and it's completely against my first commandment to play any song twice, no matter what it is. However, the guy who dj's on another night plays songs as many as 3-4 times when it's new (ie - justin timberlake - sexy back), and this is only a 4 hour set. I cringed everytime it came back on. Ususally they'd be different remixes, but not all the time.

I once looped 8 beats of a track for close to 20 minutes before anybody in the room noticed...

Do you think he's ever gonna stop playing that track?

That's the only track I don't mind hearing twice.

If the deejay plays a 4+ hour set, then it's not so bad if a tune is dropped twice...unless of course the gap between is only 20 minutes. lol.

I'm more annoyed when deejays drop a remix of a track RIGHT after they played the original...cheesey!

Smiley DJ Don't you remember....?

I don't know if he was the first to double drop or anything but I know that's when Paul Oakenfold ceremoniously "passed the torch" on to DJ Tiesto back in 2000 when he dropped 'silence' twice. He didn't even mix in or out either time. Oakenfold relegates himself to obscurity and Moby gets him to mix 4 tracks on his next release then signs him to the 'Area2' tour along with David Bowie in 2002.
