Fuck

OFF!

Do you know how much skill it actually takes to make a good dj?

Matt is mostly right, but that's why ASCAP collects a yearly fee from all of the area's clubs and radio stations for its artists.

Part of being a production artist is the realization that you will NEVER make any money of dj's. This is why you sell your music to more capital ventures.

Being a DJ myself, yes I do.

But when you think about it when Armin, Tiesto, etc, etc. charge thousands and thousands of $$$ to come and mix what is mostly tracks by other artists.

Recent tracklists (Dance Department) from the big four:

Armin van Buuren
01. Eric Prydz vs. Pink Floyd - Proper Education
02. Oxia - Domino
03. Cara Dillion vs. 2 Devine - Black is the Colour (Coco & Green Remix)
04. Kirsty Hawkshaw & Tenisha - Outsiders (Jose Amnesia Remix)
05. Andy Moor vs. Orkidea - Year Zero
06. Cosmic Gate Feat. Tiff Lacey - Should've Known (Dub Mix)

Ferry Corsten
01. Breakfast & Big Mike - Lifeforms
02. Frost & Maron - Mute Your Mind (Yield Remix)
03. Breakfast - How Do You Feel?
04. Ferry Corsten - Fire (Flashover Mix)
05. Ferry Corsten - Watch Out

Tiesto Live @ The Point - Dublin 04-11-06 //tiestotracklist.net
01. First State - Evergreen
02. Carl B Feat. Breaking Benjamin – Diary Of Jane
03. Jose Gonzales – Crosses (Tiesto Remix)
04. Marc Houle – Bay Of Figs
05. Tiesto – Lethal Industry (Richard Durand Remix)
06. Skin – Faithfulness (Tiesto Remix)
07. Cosmic Gate – Consciousness
08. Joop – The Future
09. Carlos – The Silmarillia (Leon Bolier Remix)
10. Precursor – The Navigator
11. Jamaster A – Bells Of Tiananmen (Airbase Remix)

Paul van Dyk
01. Above & Beyond - World On Fire (12" Remix)
02. Soul Tan & Ned Shepard - Aidan
03. Miro - Lift It Now (Montero's Robots Live Dub)
04. DJ Tatana - If I Could (Simon & Shaker Dub)
05. Hiden Logic Pres. Luminary - Wasting (Ronski Speed Remix)
06. ID
07. Giuseppe Ottaviani & Marc Van Linden - Until Monday
08. Beckers - Colour Me Blind
09. Gustavo Santaolalla - The Wings (Gabriel & Dresden Organised Nature Mix Remix)
10. Divini & Warning - 4LB
11. Stereonova - Deep Inside

This opinion obviously does not apply to all DJs - there are several out there who deserve to be paid for what they do, and many spin (and beyond) completely original stuff... but I find it ridiculous how much these big 4 make per gig when they essentially just mix other peoples work.

I know... I am not saying it can be changed, just saying it's not fair.

I'd be interested to know how much this actually is. I somehow doubt it's as much as Tiesto or PvD would make on a night.

I completely agree that some of these big names fees are completely overly bloated. Especially when in the "not-so-lower" ranks below, we're lucky to get a bar tab and a guest list. Again, I think that the solution to this problem is truly that the lower rung of dj's (whom many are quite talented) start demanding thier respect due. It helps everyone.

that's the biggest problem in the semi-pro ranks

too many beginners wanting to play out and willing to play for free undercutting those of us who actually make money djing

of course promoters are going to go with the cheaper route, even if it means booking a less skilled dj

they've got your ticket cash and you through the door, they don't care after that

djs need to realize what their worth is and actually start to ask for compensation

and not only that but rarely do they play anything obscure or interesting. you pretty much always know what tunes to expect from these djs. thats my biggest beef.

FUCKIN-A TO THAT TONY!!!

Too many newbies want to be rockstars quickly and see thier names on fliers that they whore themselves out to promoters. Then when somebody with some experience comes around asking for a fee (because we know we're worth it), we get passed by.

As I told yesterday for an interview: cult of popularity is a cancer that separates us more than it brings us together.

But I'm not the first one writing or saying this.
