Write a note and leave it on his desk while he's at lunch and say that it's from a 'secret admirer' and for him to start thinking about his body odor.

Unfortunately there is a lack of education amongst muslims. The only alcohol which is forbidden is the alcohol which can be consumed. In 99% of the case of alcohol used within perfumes, deodorants etc are not the same type that can be used for consumption and as a result we are able to wear it.

Besides, it's religiously wrong to be unclean as a muslim as we are supposed to be clean with an exact regiment pretty much all the time and even has specific times ordained when you absolutely must bathe. Cleanliness is literally next to godliness for muslims. If you guys ever encounter these so-called muslims ask them to speak to their local imam about their smell. That should shut them up

I had a coworker who smelled very nasty. He always came to my desk to hang out and chat with me. The stench was unbearable. So I ordered these really expensive air freshners (they were like $25 a bottle...obviously they worked well) and I always had a bottle hidden nearby. I could see when he was on his way over to see me, so I would spray the office. And as soon as he left, I would spray it again.

The air freshner was good, but not good enough. And I didn't want to get in trouble for spending half of the company's money on that stuff.

Once I had a chat with him about deodorant. It was really awkward, but someone had to do it. I think I said something along the lines of, "Omg, I was late for work this morning! I didn't have time to make a cup of tea, or even to pack a lunch. At least I remembered to put on deodorant! That's the important thing!"

It actually worked. The next day, he came into my office, and he smelled really good! This went on for about a week, and I thought I would tell him that he smells really good (so he would feel encouraged to keep up the good work).

Problem solved!

You have done the right thing by bringing it to the attention of your boss. It is now up to your boss to do something. Most companies will have personal hygiene standards that must be met.

I'm amazed at how many of you can't just be assertive and upfront with people. I think it's fucking bullshit to "casually bring up a conversation about deodorant". What are you? 12??

If it bothers you, you have every right to say something. Being assertive isn't about offending people or being accusatory. It's about making clear YOUR issues, without encroaching upon another person's comfort/beliefs/whatever.

Never point the finger and say things "YOU should this", or "YOU didn't do that", etc.

Just state what YOUR problem is, and what you'd like to see change about it.

"Hey man, I'm sorry but I'm really bothered by the way you smell. Is there anything you can do to freshen up a bit before you come to work?"

How hard is that? Seriously.

And yeah, if it's such a big deal for you...then tell your boss. I'm sure he/she is an expert at assertive problem solving tactics.

Nevermind, I just re-read that your boss and you are trying to come up with way to do it that will "save face". Good fucking lord, where do you work? Passive Aggressive Incorporated?? Unbelievable.
