I don't mind sharing what I know here. I'm not going to put a lot of time into it though, because you never know if you are wasting your time or not. Some of these so called "stupid questions" are really an attempt to start a discussion. Like one recent one, asking what pink noise is. I'm sure this person knew they could look it up with a search, they've been around here a while. I think they wanted to know what everyone here thought about pink noise, and how they use it. Instead, they got told do do a search. How bout we just dissolve this forum, we don't need it, if a search and FAQs are all we need? Unforunately, search engines and FAQs can't talk back to you and engage you in a discussion.
There's a bit of snottiness and nastiness here. If you think a question is stupid, just ignore it. Smartass comments are uncalled for and make this place look bad. You have jackasses on every music forum though, I'm glad there is an ignore feature here. |

I love sharing my knowledge with others. Yah, people ask stupid questions alot. But when I first started dj'ing and producing, I didn't know some of the basic shit either. So to tell somebody that if they can't answer a basic or stupid question then they don't deserve to by producing is kinda harsh. I feel that some people fear competition so they try to eliminate those who don't much so they don't become a threat.
When I help others, I feel that I'm making more of a contribution to the music as a whole. I'm sharing my experience and knowledge with somebody who hasn't experienced it (whatever "it" is). This way, they can avoid any hardships or at least have an expectation on what "could happen". If that person becomes a great dj or musician, then I feel even better that I helped somebody make thier dreams come true. I can say that I had some influence on it.
If somebody asks a repetitive question I often reply with a reference on where they can get thier answer. I don't spend alot of time giving them the answers rather I have them answer thier own question through researching it. |

i'm sure most of you would feel like shit if you ask a question from your favorite dj and he/she/they just fell on the ground and rolled and started laughing and making fun of you..well unless you're just sick in the head..
as much as its fun to do it and you get a good laugh out of it, at the end of the day deep inside you feel guilty but you just choose to ignore it..
you can't come up to this conclusion unless you change your way of thinking and you can't change your way of thinking by being told to do so.
p.s. i didn't meant to start a war on T.A.
cheers.
lets end this thread now.

Pardon my interruption, but I fail to see how "ego boost" is in any way synonymous with or even related to your "own life and music career". It makes perfect sense to be getting the ego boost regardless of how it affects your... career.
Besides, you are most definitely trying to give yourself an ego boost with your incessant attacks in this thread, evidently trying to prove to us that you're far less selfish than the rest of us assholes.
I don't exactly condone indiscriminate flaming of newbies, the key word being indiscriminate. A little bit of tough love is sometimes necessary for the people who don't want to think for themselves; spoonfeed people everything and they'll never learn how to learn. And seeing as how I maintain the stickies and am continually trying to contribute other useful ideas like the equipment recommendations and the CPU thread, you're going to have a hard time convincing me or anyone else here that I'm just a bitter old crank who doesn't want to share the knowledge because *gasp* somebody else might use it to get good. These theories are really a load of crap and you know it.
The fact of the matter is, some of the comments you've posted in this thread are considerably more vicious than any of the casual slights that some regular members post to the people looking for "help" (I use the term loosely, since the "help" desired is often a cookbook). You are every bit as guilty of the cheap shots and ego-tripping that you are putting others here on trial for - you're just targetting a different group. If you were innocent and altruistic, you'd be out setting an example instead of actively pissing all over the people you think are jerks. Speaking of examples, I can't seem to recall any serious recent contributions you've made - care to point me to one or two of them?

No, I just enjoy a good debate that's all. For me, this is entertainment and heaven forbid that somebody challenge the majority of thinking. In essence, by challenging the majority whom feel the need to bash on newbies asking "stupid" or redundant questions, I'm helping them as well. I'm simply interjecting an intelligent rebuttal to the psuedo-nonsense of newbie bashing, I'm getting a point across as well.
Sure, it's stupid banter all in it's own. I mean, how can I honestly think I can change the minds of those who choose to be the way they are? It would be awful egotistical to think it's possible. But THIS is entertainment. And many of you played right into it.
So my next (and last) question to you is:
How do your shoes feel being on the other foot?
