I could deal with the snow if it wasn't for the cold.
That is what I don't like about winter is the temperature.

I just spent an hour shovelling my driveway, which fits only 4 vehicles. Fuck that noise.

I can't say that I like anything about this weather. Most of the time it makes me feel like I want crawl down a whole and stay there until April or May. Really I feel like a different person and trying to fight it takes a lot out of me. It is weird describing it to people who are not experiencing the same in the winter. I guess you can compare it what it would feel like if something bad happened to you on most days or you had a problem that you continuously cannot resolve. You would feel down right? Except in my case the issue is the weather.
The way I feel about the weather has nothing to do how I feel about this country or the city because I absolutely love Toronto and Canada and everything they stand for. For me it is absolutely a blast to live here from April/May until about September/October. Toronto would be an ideal place if it had a slightly different climate.
I have not always felt like this about winters. I grew up in a country that has 4 seasons and had fun in the snow as a kind. I have noticed though that is has been progressively worse. Every winter it gets more difficult.
It looks like I might be due for another move. I would hate to leave however if becomes a health issue I don't think I will have a choice.

Yes, i'll be doing that shortly, my driveway is roughly the size of a basketball court, but a bit narrower.

I HATE WINTER

You need new shovelling techniques, or a snowblower. It should take more than 20 mins with a shovel, 10 with a snowblower. I'm a shovelling machine, used to do it as a job in my neighbourhood when I was younger.

+1!!!

And endless_summer (appropriate name by the way,) you are experiencing what is known as SAD, or otherwise known as Seasonal Affective Disorder. I experience mild symptoms of SAD, but I don't think it is that serious right now. It can progressively get worse as you age. I know that when I am older, I have 100% intention to leave this country and move to one where the climate is warmer. I thrive in the warmth, and am overall FAR MORE happy. You can see it even in photos. A picture of me in the winter vs. summer is like night and day.

Anyway, you may want to consider light therapy. A big reason why people get SAD is because of a lack of vitamin D that we attain by UV ray exposure. Not being outside as often, and not having a lot of daylight = serious drop in exposure to vitamin D = SAD.

Here is a website that explains a little more of it.

To be honest, it hasn't been a bad winter. I am not used to winters in Toronto, but this is definitely nothing compared to up north. And all the snow makes it look really beautiful outside.

+1, nothing compared to up north

Take vitamin D supplements. Problem solved.

A lack of vitamin D is only part of the problem.

What causes Seasonal Affective Disorder?

No one knows for sure what causes SAD but researchers believe it may have to do with;

* Fewer daylight hours may reduce important mood altering chemicals in the brain;
* Hormonal disruption (cortisol, thyroid)
* Reduced retinal sensitivity to light,
* Low winter temperatures may trigger the body to rest and disrupt circadian rhythms;
* Barometric pressure and precipitant levels,
* Psychological mechanisms and personality traits may all be contributing factors.
