James,
I agree with you. However, you shouldn't quit something you love so much. Being a deejay should not limit your views on music. I hope you don't get the impression that just because you're a dj, you have to play only club records.
Right now, with so much software going around, I feel you can be a tad more creative than with turntables. However, when playing at clubs I do prefer the cdjs.

I haven't quit yet! It's something I will definitely get back into in the near future. I guess what I was trying to explain was what pushed me to take a break from it, and how I've grown since then, which I think will drastically change why and how I'll mix when I do start up again. So yeah, what you say is most applicable Enrique

technology has definitely helped my expansion. with the advent of CD players/Ableton/Digital downloads/Soulseek as a viable alternative to spending more money than I have on vinyl, it's massively expanded the amount of music I have available to choose from when I make a mix.
as for musical taste, I started out playing progressive house and the occasional trance (but progressive trance, never hard trance or cheesy vocal shit), occasional tribal house, occasional tech house. As time has gone on, Trance has gone from being something I would sometimes play, to being something I can only sometimes tolerate let alone play. What I play has slowly slid from what I described before, to really being just House of various types (especially prog and tech). I discovered that Techno kicks ass a while ago, and now I play mostly what I'd call tech house and techno with the occasional progressive house. It's been several years since I've played a song that I'd call Trance.
I prefer vinyl over everything else so far, I'd rather use CDJ's than Ableton when I can, but Ableton is a solid choice when there's nothing else readily available or at college (where bringing my turntables would be impractical, and I'm too poor to buy my own CDJ's).

I've found this to be very true as well. I'm easily 10x more picky with how I select tunes now than I used to be, because I hear differences in them that affect the overall style or the flow of the mix that I didn't used to hear. Guess it's sort of like how people who don't listen to EDM think it's all just the same, but once you start listening you realize how much variation there is.
