all of my friends are successful. I don't hang out with those that can't set their lives straight, I was apparently a good enough judge of character back then to pick great friends.... well that and going to a highschool with a 99.9% university completion rate doesn't hurt...
Regardless of what industry you end up in, as long as it's what makes you happy and doesn't hurt those around you then it's good enough for me to view you as successful.

I find it interesting that alot of you feel the need to make a direct relation with being 'successful' and going to college/uni. Don't get me wrong, I'm a strong believer in higher education, and as a tradesman am constantly updating my skills and myself. It's the whole mentality of "well I went to college and am working for a huge company...my other friends?..meh..plumber, construction, mechanic etc", that gets under my skin sometimes. Myself along with 3 guys from HS are all in construction, all making close to 6 digits, will NEVER be out of a job, are all in very high demand and looking to retire by 55-60. On top of it all, you can throw us into almost any country in the world and can have a (well paying) job in a matter of days...how many "just graduated and can't find a job for months now" threads have there been again? Like I said I'm not bashing the ones that choose to pursue higher education, the world needs lawyers, doctors, engineers etc. just as much as it does tradesmen and some people are built with better hands on skills than academic.

As for judging ones success in life...imo job status, position, income, education are very small factors for me. One of my closest/longest friends grinds it out 6 days a week in a factory, making below average income, married and probably the most happiest/positive person I know...and for that I envy him.

Well a lot of students that I knew (never really hung out with) ended up like that. My high school only had about 400 people. I guess when they are bored and don't know any better, they have sex. I preferred to study.

Oh, and for the record, I am not talking down on those people. They made their own decisions, and had to grow up very quickly so that they could raise their family. Most of them are really happy now.

You can't really understand this way of life (which I personally wouldn't choose) unless you lived there.

so do i. and the rest of it was very well said IMO!

my best friend up in collingwood, never stepped a foot into uni or college. but he did have the entrepreneurial spirit as strong as ive ever seen it, and willing to take risks to get to where he wants to be in life.

he owns too pita pit business now, one of which at blue mountain he opened himself (no small obstacle).

for 23, the guy owns 2 successful business, drives an infinity, and owns a house.

(hes also employing most his whole family now...)
