Ok. First things first.
If this is a contest, we need to have a few judges. At least 3 who'd be willing to sit down and listen to all the sets submitted.
Also, the judges should pick a genre, then pick 10 tracks for the contestants to mix.
Then a deadline to submit a mix.

Organize...

You mean upload a set?

Use one of the free servers. Sendspace and Megaupload seem popular

Well Im down for listening to "one" entry from each competitor, but like I said in earlier posts I can only do this at the end of April when my exams are over.

Like Idoru said, the point of this is to use the same tracks. There's no one on that "side" because we're not discussing how to do a general competition.

In any case, before we pick tracks, we need a genre and a selection from which to choose them, so keep the votes on that coming.

Also, we'd either need judges (and more than 3, IMO), or to open it up to everyone. I'd say it'd be more useful to do something in between--make it open for anyone to judge, so long as you make the commitment to listen to everything. We might wind up with 3 people on the voting panel, or we might wind up with 50. Either way, that eliminates the process of nominating people, and bickering over their choices.

p.s. please don't use megaupload.

I'd love this competition to be in the Trance genre, though I'd also compete if it were either techno or house, or any other genre. I'm curious in those other styles as well. There's always stuff to learn in undiscovered terrains :P

For music source I have no real preference, since I'm a beatport cheapo :P

So we can limit the track selection to about 10 tracks which can be used to make a coherent mix. This is hardly possible with 10 tracks from 3 or more different genres.

We could of course have 3 rounds (1 per genre) and select about 10 tracks per round

No disrespect, but this is Tranceaddict.com. I think it would get really confusing with alot of other genres. I personally would not do it if it were house. I do not own any house music, and I would not waste my time searching and purchasing it, let alone mixing it. This is j/m/o and I don't mean any disrespect to anyone else.

Can you imagine listening to 15+ mixes of the SAME 10 tracks??? It'd be horrible. I'd be bored by mix 3. IMO it won't work.

Do a DJ contest. Any tracks. Any software/hardware can participate. Judging is one poll thread. Mixes can be compiled into one thread on a certain date. Voting could take place for 1-2 weeks. Limit of 7 tracks. ETC. ???

It's been done before.

We're trying for something creative here.
