I think the mark of a good DJ is when he gets over 'genre' and no matter what he is playing, it's just the right piece(s) of music at the right time. imo the brilliance of deejaying comes from when you can take a style and transform it by recontexting it in a set with a more dominant style. i always think that's beautiful. i don't know might be a parlor trick by this point (how long have djs been doing this after all) but it still gets me.
i'm sure you know that though judging from your taste, but i just want to make the point that it's equally obnoxious to cram as many different styles as one can into a set just for the sake of being 'eclectic' or 'elusive'.
i would never call the goa mix groundbreaking, but it's quite well done IMO and quite emotional for me, but that's probably obvious; i don't think i'm in the minority here
