The kind of things i see on the news is so ridiculous that it actually makes me question the mentality of the public as to "Do they actually i enjoy watching this nonsense day in and day out?"

The coverage on the Terri Schiavo incident pretty much epitomizes how bored these guys are and how desparately they try to search for stories and blow it out of proportions and somehow get a large chunk of the public to closely monitor events.

Some of the stuff ive seen of the Vtech coverage is totally unnecessary like profiling each of the dead students , talking to their family members , getting 10 different reporters to give their take on the same issue of the matter being reported.

Its taking away the most important thing that Vtech and its students need which is mourning in private without having reporters running around trying to find every person who knew that psycho gunman. Its probably also resulted in the calls for the president of the college to be sacked when it was something he could have done nothing about.

And the worst part is that it seems to be working. I noticed so many people change their pictures on facebook and msn to the vtech logo (lol gotta love them bandwagoners) and its no doubt going to result in some people having selling V tech merchandise cashing in big time as so many people try to show they care.

CNN has to take the cake for me. Ive noticed every big news story of theres has to have some movie related title to it.

We had Sept 11 part 1 - America under attack
and then Sept 11 part 2 - America fights back

Vtech - Massacre at virginia tech

God damnit Rupert Murdoch you might as well open up a CNN news theater.

Basically, it just said that the American public response en mass is utterly predictable when it comes to big/tragic news stories, and elaborated on the inevitable cycle of events/response/news that follows something like what happened on Monday.

It was pretty spot on.

Do you have a link to it? Id love to read it

oh yes. and fox news does this to a t. i REALLY realized it when they covered the anna nicole smith story as if there was a threat to national security.

how many times did i have to see headlines like:

"anna nicole smith: her life"
"anna nicole smith: a shock to the nation"
"anna nicole smith: trouble in hollywood"
"anna nicole smith: the tale of a fallen celebrity"
"anna nicole smith: who is the father?"
"anna nicole smith: what really happened?"

they were acting as if it was the "e" channel! they beat stories (mostly meaningless and pointless stories) to death. this is why i don't like the news... the only reason i'm exposed to it is if someone else is watching it and i am there. i have disliked the news for a while and i think they need to upgrade the news system for real.

They tend to focus on lesser important things than a lot of tragedies that happen elsewhere.

i think the major problem is that nothing ever happens outside of the states

yeah seriously... 1000 other people died the same day she did, yet no one was informed as if it was a threat homeland security. i dislike the media because all of it is bullshit. i'll start paying attention when i see something of relevance.

ok i take everything i said back .. i guess this is what makes the news when there isnt anything big going on

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/19/do...l.ap/index.html

quote:
DALLAS, Texas (AP) -- Faced with complaints that his donkey was too loud, attorney Gregory Shamoun decided to bring his case directly to the court: he had the donkey testify.

Buddy the donkey appeared in court Wednesday. He walked to the bench and stared at the jury, the picture of a gentle, well-mannered creature and not the loud, aggressive animal he had been accused of being.

Shamoun was in a dispute with oilman John Cantrell, who had complained to the city about a storage shed Shamoun was building in his backyard in Dallas. Cantrell said Shamoun retaliated by bringing the donkey from his ranch and putting him in the backyard.

Cantrell complained of donkey noise and manure piles.

"They bray a lot any time day or night. You never know when they're going to cut loose," he testified.

Despite the donkey's appearance, neither jurors nor Buddy had the last say -- the neighbors settled their dispute while jurors deliberated.

I saw this while skimming CNN today...

"Many of the dead were athletes, scholars, friends and mentors."

Well no shit? They were, after all, college students. I never would've guessed they would've been scholars or athletes. That's just shocking!

well i dont know how stupid this might sound, but i think that kind of news is necessary, a little comic relief in our life is always welcomed in my opinion. yet the main and serious focus of the media is what i complaint about. i mean, i love a little enws about sports, life, cooking... etc

cable news rots your brain, it's not even real journalism. 99% of it is nothing more than sensational bits of soft infotainment narrated through a filter of baseless speculation and editorial. people who don't want to be conditioned into complete morons should read their news from print/web sources

I exclude the VT thing, that was bad but it doesn't need to be playing over & over...esp the tapes sent to NBC of him rambling like a lunatic.

Uhh... are you referring to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami? Because you'd need to multiply that death toll by about 230. And if I recall correctly, there was an endless amount of coverage and media frenzy surrounding it.
