ya in my case it's just an established relationship, admittedly it's hard at first to find one u can totally trust but once u do ull end up always going there. i'll never take the car to the dealership just on principle, unless it's not my dollar.

My 2000 Focus was the worst car my familys ever owned, it was in the shop at least once a month, we eventually payed to get out of it because the car was so unreliable. Thats my 2c, i know they fixed some things, but mine was a disaster and because of that i would never recommend purchasing one.

Thats because you bought a 2000. Id never buy that model year, it's been nothing but problems.
And about the mechanic - yeah, obviously Im going to take it to one. I dont have a "trusted" mechanic in Atlanta (although oddly enough I do have a trusted auto body repair shop in Atlanta...) but Im going to take it to a friends "trusted" auto mechanic on Monday.
And I wont have a warranty because its a private seller, but Im of the mindset that if you just take care of your car the way it should be then its not going to fall apart at 70K.

you could always look into getting an extended warranty. i'm not sure how much they are, but it might be worth it to pay for that instead of having to shell out money in the future for unexpected repairs. i'm probably going to do that once the manufacturer warranty on my VW expires next month.
Have you ever considered looking into the Police Auctions and Repo's? I'm sure you'd find something way cheaper then your budget, or perhaps something much better to fit your budget.

extended warranties can only be purchased on certified or dealer purchased cars.

hmm... good point. i forgot she was buying from a private seller. i know there's tons of websites out there that offer extended warranties but i've never done the research on them.
