I thought I could get at least something useful out of this worthless thread.

exactly

shit, "minimal" has been around for as long as any other genre, and i don't think it's going anywhere. go to any club in germany and you'll see what i mean

Maybe I am but where's the fun in "beep, beep, ding ding, beep, beep" or whatever it is. To me, that's what minimal sounds like, it's the lack of elements and the simplicity. But to me, going out to a club or some festival and hearing a set full of that for what two hours with maybe some electro-house shit, is boooring as hell. People go out to have fun, enjoy themselves, and unless your in some lounge where really arty people go to who like things like modern art and poetry (I do) and just sit around and drink mixed drinks, then I don't see how minimal as a genre can really "rock a dance floor", as in make people jump up and have fun and dance. It's almost like dancing to ambient music....the music should reflect the experience, just as the experience should reflect the music. Not saying minimal totally sucks, but I just don't feel it's a genre that works on a dancefloor like trance, techno, house and breaks.

PS. This is just my opinion that it doesn't to me. Maybe it does, as I don't go to clubs in Germany or anywhere else. But from the stand point of enjoyable club music, I don't think minimal is.

not sure where exactly you're from, you're right, minimal can be boring like that. but if you go to somewhere in the world where the crowd is into it, you'll see dancing like the most bangin house/techno/whatevr you want can't touch with a 10 foot pole. i don't think america is quite that place, altho who knows what the future holds

go to berghian/panoramabar in berlin, cocoon or robert johnson in frankfurt, or dc10 on ibiza, you'll see what i mean

Yeah probably, that's why I just edited my thing to state that. It's largely my opinion. I just think club music should be enjoyable, both to listen to and dance to, and to a certain extent, I don't find minimal fun to either listen to or dance to. The concept is nice, the execution tends to be boring IMO.

Haha well don't think i'll be going there anytime soon but your probably right. Maybe it was just an ignorant statement (I make plenty) but it is largely my opinion.
