press release

DEMON DAYS: An official Planet E Selection
CARL CRAIG (Detroit / Planet E)
GAMALL (Demon Days NYC)

WHAT IT IS
A club night started by Detroit Electronic producer / DJ Carl Craig and NYC
based partner DJ Gamall -dedicated to forward thinking electronic music to
reflect our times.

WHAT THE PRESS SAY
³an utter blast, like something out of club land¹s heyday² TIME OUT NEW YORK

CARL CRAIG BIO
Renowned electronic music producer / DJ / record label owner Carl Craig is
one of the few artists who can truly claim to have shaped the sound of
modern electronic music. Recording under his own name and many alias'
including 69, Psyche, BFC, Paperclip People, Innerzone Orchestra, Tress
Demented and many others Craig has always followed his own path and explored
a diverse range of sounds within the framework of electronic music.

Craig first started making music in his teenage years when he discovered a
deep love of Prince and a Moog synch at college. He's not stopped since. His
first composition ³Elements² was released first on the acclaimed major
label compilation album 'Techno2' in the UK followed shortly after by his
debut single for Derrick May's Fragile label in 1990. He was also briefly a
member and co-writer of material in May's Rhythm is Rhythm. The two even
played one legendary live show together in the UK at Dingwalls.

After parting ways with May to focus on his own material Craig started his
first label Retroactive in collaboration with a partner. Early singles such
the first Paperclip People single "Oscillator" as well as the classic "No
More Words EP" (featuring the classic 'Wrap Me in It's Arms') followed -
showcasing Carl's ever changing multi-personality music that was able to
take in everything from a new take on breakbeats to atmospheric moody soul.
Retroactive also released singles from Underground Resistance, A Guy Called
Gerald (under alias Inertia), John Beltran (under alias Open House), MK and
others.

After a mutual split he disbanded Retroactive and started up a new imprint -
his, now almost 15 years old, acclaimed independent label Planet E
(responsible for bringing us acts like Recloose, Moodyman, Common Factor and
many more). His first release for the label was the classic Wu Tang Clan
inspired first single "4 Jazz Funk Classics" (taking it's name from a
Throbbing Gristle album).

Since then Craig has released the majority of his own music on his own label
with a few exceptions. Singles like "Bug in the Bassbin" were picked up in
the UK and inspired the Drum n Bass movement. Whilst singles like Throw¹
under his alias Paperclip People have proved to be massive club hits. Most
recently single releases such as "Darkness" and the two Tres Demented EPs
have drawn attention from a wide array of supporters.

His debut solo album "Landcruising" was released in Europe on major label
Blanco Y Negro (his label mates were Jesus and Mary Chain) - the soundtrack
to a drive around Detroit - the album showed Craig's vision had much more to
it than could be confined on a 12" single.

Since his debut album he's gone on to release seven highly acclaimed artist
albums including the stand out ground breaking "More Songs About Food and
Revolutionary Art" for his own Planet E and a number of DJ mix discs
including a mix for Fabric in 2005 and the Kings of Techno mix for BBE in
2006.

Craig has also always been very heavily in demand as remixe. He has almost
a hundred remixes to his credit for artists as diverse as Tori Amos,
DeeLite, Depeche Mode, Hugh Masekela and and Throbbing Gristle. In late
2005 after starting the Demon Days club night with partner Gamall his remix
for Theo Parrish's "Falling Up" indicated the club nights sound - dark,
tough, aggressive but sure to rock the club. The remix was a sure fire hit
with DJs worldwide. When he followed the remix with a remix for DFA's Delia
Gonzalez and Gavin Russom international acclaim for Craig as remixer reached
an all time high. Since then he's remixed acts like Goldfrapp, Rhythm &
Sound, X Press 2, Brazilian Girls, and most recently in 2007 Faze Action,
Junior Boys and Siobahn Donaghy. He's always busy in the lab working on new
remixes for the likes of Tiefschwarz and others.

Techno and electronic music however is just one side of Craig - in 1998 he
toured his ground- breaking Innerzone Orchestra around the world, fusing
jazz and techno and playing with a seven-piece band. In the early 00's Craig
also produced the jazz influenced Detroit Experiment album that featured
players like Amp Fiddler and Marcus Belgrave. Now in 2007 he's hard at work
producing a jazz record for his own Community Projects label (which
previously released an album from jazz drummer Francisco Mora). The new
album saw Craig bring together the original members of the Tribe records
collective - Marcus Belgrave, Doug Hammond, Phil Ranelin, Wendell Harrison
as well as other Detroiters for a brand new recording. The album as yet to
be titled will be released this fall.

Craig also explored his experimental music side when he performed at
Cranbrook on Harry Bertoia's sound sculptures. A audio and video recording
of the event remain unreleased.

As well as founding his Planet E label and Community Projects - he has also
released Hip Hop from Detroiters like Lacks, Big Tone (w/J Dilla) on his
Antidote imprint. all committed to discovering new talent. Craig continues
to support new acts and explore new territory with his labels.

In 2000, Craig started one of the largest public ventures for techno in the
US when he started Detroit Electronic Music Festival _ he was responsible
for starting the festival and booking the first 2 years. The first year
drew 1.2 million people bringing together both aficionados of Detroit's
electronic music and many locals. The numbers and crowd have never quite
reached the same mix and level since Craig's departure but the festival
continues.

In 2006 Craig also completed work on a new studio in Detroit. Carl is
currently hard at work on a new album for 2008.

His DJ sets remain both eclectic, cutting edge and a serious delight. Demon
Days: An official Planet E selection remains his key outlet for playing in
North America. He described the idea behind the event to San Francisco
Weekly - "More or less, the idea is to party like it's 1999," says Craig,
juggling his cellphone with oceanic bites at a Detroit Red Lobster, "to
forget about these demon days that we live in and let yourself go to crazy
music." Speaking to Boston's Weekly Dig about the party he added "We have no
playbook,² he assures me. ³But me and [Demon Days co-founder Gamall] might
try to pull some sort of Statue of Liberty play. It¹s just gonna be a big
slap-happy-fest.² So far Demon Days has rocked the house in New York, San
Francisco, Chicago, Detroit, Boston and Toronto. The night will be make it's
Montreal debut on June 1st.

Craig still lives in Detroit where he owns a Mies van der Rohe designed
home.
