I always hear that money does not equal happiness, and I agree to an extent. Having lots of money is only pleasurable (its a short-term thing), which once you start taking for granted, will not make you any happier. That's one way of looking at it.

However, I want lots of money in my life, because of the lifestyle you can get with it. I want to be able to travel a lot, i want to have a nice house, I want to be able to give my kids top eduation, and all these things do not come for free. These are the things that bring happiness in my life.

the starting base for an analyst, fresh out of college, on wall st. is $60k with a $10k signing bonus. only investment bankers work 100+ hours. a first year will get a year end bonus of about $30-$60k.

If you're on the sales and trading side, your hours are much better (like 7am - 7pm) and your bonus is about $20-50k.

Days off I'm working the stock market and going to people's houses and doing their computer repair.

I'm currently in USAF training on track to fly F-16s with the Air National Guard. Military won't make me a millionaire, but the nice thing about the Guard is that once you're finished with training, you become part time military- so I can find a job with a commercial airline somewhere making a bit more cash.

And if the airline thing doesn't happen- I'll survive with the money I make, and have fun doing so flying a single seat Mach 2+ jet

I haven't really got a clue what I want to do once I qualify as an accountant. I'm thinking something to do with investments but not too high pressure as I've had enough of that.

Roll on Feb 08 when my life is once more my own (I hope)!

What they don't tell you is, you better be the top of the game when it comes to earning that kind of money and you better damn well be able to back it up with consistent positive results, working harder, longer and smarter than anyone else.
Because the people who'll be your boss and your customers will smell the stink of any BS on you a long way away. You will work 7 days a week and things like holidays, weekends and casual social gatherings are going to be a distant memory. Not saying you can't do it but you better damn well want it more than anything else, otherwise work towards something else you can excel in.

holy fuck someone else in the military!

I'm a weather officer in the USAF (just hit my one year mark...and didn't get force shaped, w00t!).

The way my career is set up for the next few years, is to advance in various positions on our ops floor, and eventually become the lead forecaster, who is overall responsible for everything weather-wise in the southcentral / southeast CONUS.

I want to be a grade school teacher. Probably work with grades 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Currently I am working for Expedia.

Game plan: go to university, then college, get my teaching certification, and live happily ever after.
