no i was responding to where he said that deejays are frustrated musicians. a lot of deejays are inherently musical is my point

not that i don't think turntables can be an instrument,

but the thing is a lot of deejays don't push it and simply play track after track

I've noticed the same thing man, and I try and filter out the negative remarks for the most part. There's a few assholes for sure.

There's a lot of good people though, who are willing to provide advice and help to those that ask for it- so I stick around

+1

And the cynic ones are usually the most knowledgable and end up being by far the most useful.

Having played multiple instruments (Violin, Bass Guitar, Double Bass, Guitar, Alto Sax) for eleven years now, I can safely say that playing an instrument is by no means "mostly a physical thing." There's a lot, mentally, that goes into playing an instrument.

at the end of the day DJing and playing an instrument are alot more similar than it seems. Both take an extraordinary amount of time, practice, and dedication.
It also takes some balls to get on stage/booth in front of however so many given people and perform, not matter what your doing.
As for playing an instrument being physical, I disagree completely. You could practice a song 1000 times, but once you get on stage infront of a crowd, it is up to the individual to mentaly take hold of their hands, and do what they KNOW they can do, withouth choking under the spotlight.
As for DJing, you could say it is equally as difficult, because you are performing for a crowd that is there to dance. If you're not playing records people dig, crowd reaction will be shit, and you fail miserably, until you figure out what the crowd wants

Ultimately, both are the same, but different in the respective skill sets needed. I give props to performers either way. Their getting out there and actually DOING something!

The other thing that people don't get about this forum is that most of the folks have been here for quite a while and in internet terms actually know eachother pretty well. You are going to get quite a lot of dodgy banter, but no one actually gets that offended in most cases.
