A cops death is perceived as more tragic than other deaths because they are doing something to improve the quality of life of the ordinary person, and ordinary people see this on a daily basis. It's directly in front of our faces; catching murders, doing DUI checkpoints, investigating illegal gun sales, etc... The police get their hands dirty in so much shit the ordinary person wants no part of. In that respect they deserve the compassion they receive for things like this. And i do think that this death is more tragic than some random 23 yr old who was shot while hanging out on the block at 5am. |
